Really when I look at someone drawing a character black I don't think about how diverse they're trying to be, I just look at it and think "wow this looks like shit/pretty good". It's a simpler life.

Well, there are a few reasonings for that. One if that truth to be told, hair is a hugely distinctive thing in humans. I don't know about you but I have an easier time remembering someone if they have a distinctive hair style, or just by remembering their hair color.
So if you both humanize the characters and remove the hair style, it becomes a lot harder to see them as different versions of the same character. Especially in a static piece of art where you don't get voices or mannerisms. There are a thousand more subtle ways of doing that, but keeping the hair is usualy the easiest.
Also yanno, people dying their hairs some crazy color isn't unheard of so most people's suspension of disbelief extends to that

The thing is, pony hair color is part of their distinctive color scheme (see: crappy recolor OCs). This scheme is broken when you give them realistic skin tones. So, trying to preserve pony individuality this way seems somewhat like a lost cause anyway. For me, it just puts them in the uncanny valley.
Dyed hair? It could work, but not for all of them. I can imagine Rainbow Dash (since her hair is unusual even by Equestrian standards) and Pinkie (crazy) doing it, Rara and Twilight - not so much.

While I do agree that accents don't necessarily need to refer to amounts melanin, and that artists can draw ponies however they see fit; this fag forgot to account that having an accent DOES give you important background information about the person's ethnicity (not necessarily skin color) and culture, and that the voice actors are specifically told to pull such accents to build-up their characters. She also made the mistake of thinking that american accent doesn't count as an english accent. As for the Asian argument, well of course, not as if it matters, because noone can tell apart the different flavors of white in anime.
As for body types, there are fat ponies in the show, so that's how we can tell that the mane 6 have average bodies. People usually make AJ and Cunt muscular but that's because it fits with what their jobs and passions are, which is why a fat rarara or steroids Twilight look out of place.
