Bronycon in 2012 only had like 4000 or so people I think, they'll probably get a turnout close to 2013 or 2014 this year, just not as high as they got in 2015. Apparently scheduling so close to the 4th of July wasn't a good idea, who knew! But regardless this will still be a much larger con than Bronycon 2012.
Seriously, the fandom isn't at it's crazy fad level anymore, but it's still having cons ALL OVER the nation and in other countries as well, FOR ONE SHOW. Can any other fandom really boast that? So I say we are basically pretty well off.

This. It's a week after Fourth of July so obviously not many people would show up. Also you have to take into considerations badges being bought at the door throughout the 3 days the convention is being held, and from what I remember last year that is what many (probably not the majority though) did.
My estimate is around 800-1100 being generous on both high and low ends. And even if this years turnout is low 2017 will probably be the year to beat because of the movie.

EQLA had to skip a year, but it wasn't a lack of fundsapologies for thatit was because people up and quit so they couldn't make it happenen. I DO know for sure a pony convention never happened because of lack of funds, I just don't remember the name of it, they had to refund everyone after the news and most likely skipped a year, if they are still around at all.

2012 happened before July 4th not after. There is a difference. While I'm trying not to say that we are dying, having the largest convention for ponies in the world decrease in numbers is definitely not a good sign, no matter what holiday is near. Hopefully they plan the date better for next year.
