Based off of what? There was tgat poll in the other thread a few days ago and Rarifags came out pretty average in terms of autism. She was off in Spice Up Your Life but her other what is it, 4? yeah 4 or so major appearences have all been solid, Applejacks Day off was a Meh episode but Rarity was one of the better parts of it. And aside from that she had Gift of Maud Pie, where she was basically hilarious and a great friend who went out of her way to help Pinkie, Gauntlet of Fire (supporting role but still important) where she literally travels to the Dragonlands and puts herself in mortal danger just to provide moral support for Spike in his challenge, Saddle Row Review where she's hilarious and show's how much she trust her friends. And Applejack's Day Off her frustration made sense, she was annoyed she couldn't spend time with one of her best friends, and then later she helps Applejack see what she had been doing wrong.
Actually in terms of Rarity as not THE central character of an episode this is probably her best season, they've been focusing a lot more on the whole generosity aspect of her and how much concern she takes in others and her desire to help them. Hell even in Spice Up Your Life her mistakes all come from a well intentioned desire to save the Resturant of some ponies she literally just met.

For example Fluttershy, Fluttershy on /mlp/ doesn't tend to do too well on "best pony" surveys but on the MLPsubreddit iv never seen her get below third place. However on both the constant of Twilight being #1 and AJ #6 rings true, and usually it's by quite a margin too, I can't remember the last major /mlp/ survey by perctange but the last one of that subreddit had her at less than 10% with only the Mane 6 as options.

Let me at least try to give you some point of view. As the anons above said, Rarifags could be really defensive, and I think I can vouch for that. I definitely don't believe I can vouch for everyone, but I think I can give a fine point. I think things for Rarity were definitely a lot worse early on in the fandom.
Back when I got on the ride, early 2011, I always felt like I had to justify liking Rarity to all my friends at the time. Or anyone else for that matter. I don't want to say I felt alone, just alienated that most of my IRL friends could agree on Fluttershy, Pinkie and Rainbow, I was the odd one out. And most online communities I stuck around always had that "She's greedy" mentality early on, and at the time I recall her having like the least content creators around, everyone else was favored. And Hasbro didn't focus on her as much as they do now, either. She definitely got a boost. For me, it created that mentality, as with several of my other interests, as if I'm the only person in the world who has my opinion. So in conversations at the time, I tended to get very defensive about her. Got a little worse for me around Secret of my Excess, as that was pretty much the go to for anyone, always saying Rarity conned Spike. Then there was Season 3, the big Joke that Rarity was left out that season. It didn't help that I related a lot to her.
I'm not saying some shit like I was bullied or oppressed. That's retarded. But I think those feelings made me feel like I needed to justify myself early on, making me easy bait. I'm definitely not like that anymore, but I'd still say I still occasionally get annoyed by some comments and can't reply.

Well perhaps it's more that the easiest pony to bait with is Rarity. There's literally nothing you can bait with Pinkie. Anything you say wrong about Twilight will most likely be met with agreement (like calling her a Mary Sue or saying things were better when she was a unicorn). She what's the consensus regarding Rarity's behaviour in Spice up your Life? I know some people felt it shat on the entirety of Rarity's character, but I felt it gave her more dimension. It shows that Rarity can switch between being more business minded and more artistic minded depending on the situation. It also showed that she still has her obsession with Canterlot culture, something I thought the writers were trying to get rid of. I'm glad that's not the case. It's not a bad thing really, and it's one of many traits that make Rarity the well rounded pony she is.
More importantly, it showed that she's still flawed and can make mistakes that affect others. She was short-sighted, slightly hypocritical and a tiny bit stupid, but hey, who isn't from time to time?

I still don't really like how she behaved. I'd be more happy with her position if she at least showed that she likes the food, which she obviously doesn't. So then she founds out the Tasty Treat, a unique restaurant with actually superb food and goes fuck it, take it all down and fall in line otherwise you'll never make it. Is it me, or do we know the least about Rarity's childhood compared to the other mane 6? Her cutie mark chronicles story didn't reveal much of it at all, and instead it raised so many questions that have yet to be answered after all these seasons. Like, how the hell did she have the boutique when she was a filly and who taught her how to speak like she does now?
The rest of the mane 6 had more revealing CMC stories, AND had their childhoods revisited later on in the series, but Rarity hasn't.

The only parts that really can be pointed to that's she's almost a "monster" are:

This is definitely the worst thing she did in the episode, and the only reason she got out of it was because Twilight absolutely adored the unfinished product, more so than the intended finished design. She completely dodged a bullet.

Again, really wrong of her, but in every episode each character makes a terrible choice in order to learn the lesson.
This episode was about the fine line between Rarity's social status, and how she should treat her friends. And honestly, she treaded that pretty reasonable. When no one was around she got nervous and ended up talking her friends up more than what they were. That's not uncommon. It's not like she was lying that she didn't know them. And towards the end of the episode, how she didn't want her friends to interact with her potential clients. These same people practically ruined the Gala, you think Rarity doesn't have legitimate reasons for not wanting to be seen around them?
But that's the thing. She has reasons to, but she never actually does. She never denies her friends, or acts like she's above them, she stands with them no matter what. That's what the episode proved. She can be tempted by high society when she's on her own, because it's what she loves, but she'll put her friends first in the end.
On top of that, the episode was even better by making the high society ponies respect her for that. I originally thought Fancy Pants was going to basically tell her to fuck off. It just shows how much she was willing to give up for her friends, I think that's far from "almost being a monster."

It shows the struggle of Rarity finally climbing that social ladder andbecoming popular, which is what she always wanted, while having to sacrifice her friends.
But look, if you had one shot, one opportunity to seize everything you ever wanted, one moment, would you capture it or just let it slip?
Twilight probably won't kill herself over Rarity not fulfilling her promise and making the dress. Is hurting your friend's feelings worth finally being someone? Would you ditch a friend's party to make your dreams come true?
Rarity doesn't want to intentionally hurt her friends, she wants to have her cake and eat it too. A little lie here and there so your friends aren't hurt while you attend the high class events you always wanted.
The excuse with Opal is not enough but in for a penny in for a pound, Rarity can't just admit that she lied because that's even worse than straight up ditching Twilight, so she tries to balance between keeping her friends happy and in the dark while also keeping her high society circlejerk happy enough to not damage her name and to get more invitations for events.
And the best part of it all? It fucking paid off! Really, think about it. At the end she decided to back her friends up even though they were reckless idiots at the moment and at another time she could be righteously mad that they crashed the party. But they were there only because of her, her small lies and half-truths. At that point she felt like shit for lying to her friends about it all which heavily tipped the scales between friends and social status. They did so much for her and it was time to return the favor, sort of. Thanks to Fancy Pants not being a complete dickhead her social status got saved and her friends still don't know that she bullshitted them all, plus she earned some extra points for being a good friend that stands up for her friends.

Overall the episode has it all. Character development, interesting conflict throughout the episode, good song, some very fun moments.
It shows Rarity actually facing a problem, an inner conflict. It's a test of her character and she learns her lesson and comes out victorious.
Sure some of her choices and decisions in the episode are not the most moral or right ones, but they're ones that fit her character. They're all perfectly understandable, and the fact that she's not a perfect, flawless know-all character is what actually makes her real>implying, relatable and interesting.

My gripe with the episode is that it doesn't show much of a struggle. It portrays Rarity with all her negative characteristics, but doesn't have her actually beat them.
She acts shallow, conceited, vain, and disloyal, and never really pays for it. She lets down Twilight by never finishing that dress, then lies about it, and rather than paying for it, she's bailed out by Fancy Pants.
I do like that FP, one of the Canterlot ponies, is actually portrayed as an empathetic character who swoops in to rescue the situation, but Rarity doesn't come across at all well here. Even her own cat thinks she's being a bitch.
Compare to Rarity Takes Manehattan. Rares is even more of a bitch in that, but the reason is a lot more understandable. Also, she actually pays for it, regrets it, and more importantly, makes up for it and is redeemed.

Rarity is a good character on this show because she usually doesn't end up the victim of sloppy writing. She generally isn't Flanderized into one of her negative characteristics.

You shouldn't really be encouraging people, especially kids, to give random material things away to people anyway, as it's one of the easiest ways people can take advantage of you, and it can form fake friendships where the only reason someone hangs out with you is because you give them things.

But I don't see the problem with her behaviour or how it's bad for her character, respectively. She gets presented with a one-in-a-lifetime opportunity, considers it and acts upon it, neglecting her friends as a trade-off. At the end of the episode she learns that trade is not worth it and it's better to either be honest with your friends, because they'll understand when it means so much to you, or stand by them. Yeah, she lucks out and glides through without being punished for what she's done while shit sorts itself out, but the important conflict isn't Rarity vs the world, that's secondary, it's Rarity vs herself. I don't find that harmful for her character, nor do I consider anything in the episode as OOC.
In Rarity Takes Manehattan, Rarity gets angry, but the anger is completely reasonable and justifiable. She's under high stress, one of her life mottos was just shat upon by Suri and her friends who promised to help bitch at her because they won't get to see the show they only had the opportunity to see thanks to Rarity.
But she doesn't pay for it. In fact, she pays for not being a bitch to Suri and telling her to fuck off. Her friends just overslept by accident and understood why she was mad and weren't mad back at her. Rarity regrets her outburst but you can't really blame her for it. Her own friends don't blame her for it. There was nothing to make up for, Rarity went out of her way to get the extra tickets more to be satisfied with herself and clean her conscience.

I cut a lot of slack for songs. Imagine being Daniel Ingram, and half of the episodes coming to you, they're like God, we utterly fucked this up, PLEEEEEEEAZE SAVE US DANIEL INGRAM.

There are so many episodes of this show that would have been utter disasters but then the song saved it.

I'd say that plenty of people in the fandom respect/admire Ingram. He wrote almost all of the songs in the show, and I don't know anyone that doesn't like at least a couple of them.
Sweet and Elite would have been good even without the song, because the premise is solid and has character development.

Look how it goes down. Twilight absolutely adored it as it was. What was Rarity supposed to do at this point, tell her it was unfinished when she clearly just said how she loved how simple it was? All that happened was Rarity dodged a bullet, and there's nothing to atone for. She also didn't try to scam Twilight into liking it. If she pushed Twilight into liking it, pretending that it was done, then you would be correct. But here, what happened was Twilight found her dress, and basically took it before Rarity could do anything. And she loved it. In what way could Rarity possibly have "paid for" that situation?
Did she get out of doing something wrong? Yes, not finishing the dress as originally intended was wrong of her. But she didn't try to manipulate Twilight into liking it. There's nothing that can be done at that point.
The other thing that you're missing is Rarity had nothing to pay for, because her friends already cut her off from the "What have I done" part of the episode. There's the part where Twilight catches Rarity going back and forth, and just as Rarity's about to make that "atone" as she's on her knees begging to Twilight to let her explain, Twilight already tells her that it's a great idea to go over. That's the first part of her atonement, her approval from her friends she was afraid she wouldn't get. Then she's afraid of how the fancy ponies will act towards her friends, so that's part two.
Fuck characters limits.

So the first part was worry about her friends, but the second part, the biggest part of the episode, was fear about how what she wants, attention from high society ponies, would react to her friends. I think that's entirely reasonable. I definitely would be concerned about my friends hanging around where I want to work and making a bad impression. And it's not because I don't trust my friends, it's because I'd be concerned about how I'm seen professionally. And is that right? No. That's why Rarity has to stand up for herself, which she does.
What does she do wrong? She at first acts very concerned when her friends literally fuck up everything, who wouldn't be. And then she's about to be called out in front of everyone in the climax. And then what she does is she finally does what the episode had the point to, something every episode has, that turning point. She stands by her friends, sacrificing everything she had for there sake, because they are most important to her.
Fancy Pants may have bailed her out, but he bailed her out to the fancy ponies, not to her friends. He did Rarity a kind favor, as she did what was right by standing close to her friends as opposed to rejecting them for her own desires, he helped her by giving them his stamp of approval so that she wouldn't be ridiculed by the ponies who were bashing her the entire episode. I don't consider that bailing, I say that's a kind gesture because he saw the good in someone.
Then it ends in the traditional lesson format, with Rarity telling Celestia that, that she learned it's most important to be proud of your friends and home above all else. And Celestia approved.
So after all that, what's left unresolved that she needs to make amends for?
