This remains the nadir of the show. I'm not even upset about Twi being an alicorn, the episode itself was just a super-rushed and sloppily written dumpster fire. And the songs blew.

Yes, I actually liked the idea of Twilight eventually growing up to be a mentor figure, but this episode was just so terrible that it really made it hard for me to really enjoy season 4 and it made twilight as a character difficult really care for an entire season.
I do think Twilight is handled better now, but it was clear the writers didn't have a clear direction for twilight or even the show itself sometimes after all the mandates put into place with mmc.

He basically says that his idea was butchered by the team due to hasbro mandates, and what was made was nothing like what he had in mind.

Of course it was, and that made it worse for me. If I wanted to watch cringe stuff, I would watch humiliating game shows or shitty reality shows or whatever, but definitely not My Little Pony. The only reason I watch this show is because I want to watch something different, so if this is just going to be exactly as any other show on TV, I can't see why I'd like to keep on watching it.
