Twilight loses her crown, which is basically the equestrian equivalent of a nuclear bomb if it's in the wrong hands, Now what is her first instinct upon entering the human world to go and find it? She doesn't look for the crown, she just sings a song about how "She doesn't belong here"
Now if you were her, you'd do anything to get the crown back to Equestria right? And this world doesn't mean shit to you because you don't live in it, So wouldn't you just take the crown and fuck off, RIGHT?
Well twilight apparently loses all common sense when she's a human because her first thought isn't "You know I could just steal it, it's not like they can follow me back to Equestria" it's "SHIT THEY TOOK THE CROWN, GUESS I HAVE TO WIN A CONTEST NOW".
It gets so much fucking worse with the songs, especially the cafeteria song and twilight singing about how "She has to be herself" to "Win the crown" and then the "It's our big night" song comes around and the threat of the literal Weapon of Mass Destruction is thrown out the window yet again for them to sing about how tonight is "Their big night", And don't give me any of that shit about the other girls just singing about it because they don't know about the crown, because Twilight literally fucking told them about it.
And the ending, oh god the ending, Where sunshit simmer finally gets the crown and mind controls them, And for what, to fucking invade Equestria? Good luck with that, Celestia has an entire army, you have like 30 students with no combat experience. Now, obviously she fails due to the dues ex machina that "the mane six were actually the elements of harmony the entire time" which is bullshit but that's not what i'm talking about, What i'm talking about it how the mane six immediately forgive her with no punishment after she literally just tried to kill them, all because she cried about how sorry she was.

Throughout the entire film, the crown is turned into this giant Weapon that can be used to mind control people and turn you into a literal demon (Yeah, sure would have been nice to know that before, McCarthy). However, how the fuck does the crown have any power whatsoever without the other elements? You can't say it's because the other elements were around because they weren't, And it's not like the mane six were helping her use the power with their magical ability to be the elements suddenly, So that's a huge fucking plot hole right there.

Friendship games bombed for multiple reasons: One being that it was ass.
Two being that they timed its release HORRIBLY, releasing the toys way before the movie aired
Three being that the toys were ass and they made WAY too many of them (The fucking shadowbolts were just recolors of the mane six and had like 1 line a piece besides sour sweet and sugar coat. No one is going to buy that shit).
They look to have corrected the merchandise problems for Legend of everfree, focusing on the mane six ONLY and a couple fan favorite characters for bronies (Lyra and bonbon). So they're not going to have a shit ton that no one will buy.
Additionally, they're timing the release of the merch and the movie better.
Time will tell if the OTHER problem of quality will be fixed (But it'd be REALLY hard to do worse than FG)
