Because putting fan fiction into the show is a long running joke by this point, in this and every other fandom. Remember the "make Nyx canon" guys? Remember the joking questions about an "OC episode" at Larson's SoL panel? Those jokes fly fast and easy, and a lot of people might've dismissed the "leak" on that alone.
