There is no reason to push for a ship in particular if you are pushing only for an idea.
But the fact of the mater is, this ship is one of the most plausible of the lot.
I mean considering what's canon, if you want a main character to be portrayed as a lesbian, and if you search around where the most chemistry is, it's there.
It wasn't intended as a lesbian couple, at least I don't think it was, but the fact is, that theses two are very close, and act very differently with one another than with the rest of the cast.
And if he used the term "coming out of the closet" I'm pretty sure it's because they are already treating them as a couple internally (maybe only as a tool to better visualize the way they interact to new writers)

If they want lesbian couple, they will go with LyraBon or AppleDash or maybe even RariJack. FlutterDash was never an otpion or teased by literally anyone in DHX.
On the other hand FlutterCord was intentionally teased in the show and comics for years now. Not to mention the focus of Dash and Soarin and recently with Zephyr. There is just too much against FlutterDash to support it. Is like trying to deduct FlutterMac even though CheerieMac, MarbleMac and FlutterCord made too much damage on this ship thorughout 4 years for this ship to ever sail. You have to adjuts the headcanon for present year and mentality of the shippings.

That's a second fluttercord cover this year. The canon episodes must have turned some of the comic artists into the shippers. It's not wierd since his Smooze episode was very shippy for any casual newfag who just joined the ride. For them Discord as a character was introduced as Fluttershy-obsessed stalker or jealous boyfriend type of guy.
