like most boards on 4chan, the majority of the content is shit. but the quality you can find amongst it is worth it.
I only started going to /mlp/ recently and I've been told the glory days have already passed, but I still found a creative concent creating community here. Moreso than I've experienced on any board, or any website for that matter in a while. It's inspired me to try and do a bunch of new things already.

I got into MLP because of the fan content, I found Friendship is Witchcraft, Mentally advanced, etc.
I had watched the first episode when the show came out but having a bias against the old gen MLP and it generally being an uninteresting episode, I never looked at it again. After finding the fan content earlier this year I gave it another chance, wanting to get the injokes and the stuff it was making fun of.
Since I got into the fanbase it feels like the old Newgrounds days, people are just creating for the sake of creation, with a huge difference between levels of skill and technique. Since I got here I've completely changed the way I draw, been experimenting with painting, Im planning to invest in a sewing machine to make plushies. I've never cared much for fanfics but spend 2 of my entire days reading greens, and am now interested in learning how to properly write myself. I even want to try animation again.
I havent felt artistically inspired or motivated like this in nearly a decade. Its almost enough to bring tears to my eyes now I realize that.
The actual quality of the threads seems to go between complete rubbish to amazing to me. I also find the community very welcoming to new people, for a chan culture.

I frequent /mlp/ and /vp/ because it's a force of habit. There are things I enjoy about it, but there is definitely a quality decrease on both boards at certain points during the year. More and more newfags join each time, and you just have to deal with that.

Also, there is a dynamic ecosystem of critics here that is very hard to find in other sites. All the shitflinging can be annoying at times but it sorta grows on you and even a little bit endearing at times. Probably just me tough Iunno

I complained about this because the type of thread I wanted never showed up for more than an hour and I don't like anything else very much. I stuck around because I really wanted a thread like that. I have it now, so I don't feel like my time here is totally wasted.
I'm sure I'm not alone in this. Trying to have a higher variety of types of threads and bumping them to appeal to more people, and not reporting and attacking threads that don't interest you, would definitely help. Saying "that's what you deserve for having bad taste in threads and liking (x)! Get out!" won't make anyone stop complaining.
