It was the character moments/interactions that made the episode really. The mane 6 all got memorable moments that fit their personalities, and none of them felt overshadowed or under-utilised. Best mane 6 ep we've had in a long time.
And also it was one of funniest eps of the series. None of the jokes fell flat.

It and Gauntlet of Fire were the only two episodes that I could even conceive of putting in the top two spots. Literally nothing else deserves the top two spots because those episodes are pretty much as close to perfect as you can reasonably get.
If the entire season ends and those aren't in the top 10, I will be amazed. Hell, at least one of them I expect in common top fives, if not both.

Such an incredible concentraition of shit taste in this thread, it hurts.
1. A Hearthswarming Tail
It's the most enjoyable for me to watch and the appeal in it is clear.
2. On Your Marks
This one's complicated. I feel differently about each third of the episode. The start, with the crusaders thinking about what they'll do next was enjoyable cuteness.
The part with Apple Bloom feeling left behind, getting depressed and singing about the future and her feelings was the best. That short section was my favorite part of the season so far, and if the episode kept that pacing and let her learn a lesson and be okay with things on her own, without needing to meet and help Tender, it would have been my favorite episode.
The final part with the extra conflict and character that came out of nowhere was not enjoyable for me. It was abrupt and weird.
Though it's a weird ride of an episode that feels like 2 or 3 episodes sloppily stitched together, everything starting from Bulk Biceps leaving and ending at AB entering the dance class touched me just right.
3. The Saddle Row Review
Everyone gets great characterization and it was actually funny. You get it.
4. Gift of the MaudPi
It's really cute and wasn't a pain to watch.
5. Gauntlet of Fire
Enjoyable if I'm in the right mood. There's nothing to think about or admire too much in depth, but it's good for Spike to have something nice for him.
6. Applejack's ""day"" off
It was a nice, relaxing break from all the overwhelming progression and change. It's good to get dumb SoL that doesn't try to do anything special, sometimes.
7. Newbie Dash
Very important development that wasn't done as sloppily as some may like to say. Dash certainly wasn't out of character in how she behaved.
8. No Second Prances
I like Trixie a lot, but damn, all that terrible characterization and general stupidity didn't sit right with me. It's a shame, because like I said, Trixie's great.

The whole centerpiece of the story was that the Windigos would return if the holiday was removed. It connects very much to the 1st HW episode.
