Season 6 is good, but it's a huge departure from the original show. FiM isn't about visual gags and episodes focused around strictly adult subject matter (joining the military, opening new franchises, etc). It's always been about children pretending to be adults around town, and a definitive parental figure to guide them through (Celestia).
S6 would've had better reception if it had been a new generation reboot.
