Twilight being corrupted and none of the main 6 seeing it coming are a change. I'm curious how the CMC and Spike are going to be made to save the day. I'd be lying if I didn't say I was kind of curious and hype to see how this turns out. Despite the track record of the comics and their writers recently.

I think at this point that logic is no longer viable.
Do Princesses Dream Of Magic Sheep recycled about half of the Nightmarity Arc.
The show is in no way constrained by what the comics do. If the comics use characters or a premise, it probably only means there are no plans to use those in the show in the immediate future, as in, none of the currently available show scripts for upcoming episodes resemble it.
And as for this new arc, I'm approaching it with very, very low expectations after how Night of the Living Apples by the same team turned out.

I'd go even further and say the show doesn't even care about the comics anymore. After all, the comics went with the Crystal Heart being wrecked as a big deal... and not too long after, the show did it too and the weather just got a little funky.
I almost feel like the comics writers aren't looking at the scripts but just at the episode synopses.

Hasbro don't give any scripts ot IDW, only episode synopses. The official books get the full scripts.
