It's a mixed bag.
They have become more streamlined, and lack the whimsy of earlier season songs.
But they've also become grander in sound and instrumentation. Listen to the credit song for The Crystalling - Part 2.

Though this episode's music was nice, I agree that songs aren't as memorable as they used to be. The last song that I really liked was Rarity's Manehatten song.

No, the music of the show shows considerable effort. However they lack the memorability of the previous songs, perhaps from an over saturation of music over the past three seasons.
The problem with HWT was the premise. It has been done a thousand times, each time with a similar sound song about exactly the same thing.
It's "lazy" regarding theme, not overall quality.
