Majority of those guesses are true, especially the first one. The show was meant to stop during S3 ut it's still continuing because of us. Hasbro likes money, and as long as we give them the attention, they will keep making content. Shows like Pound Puppies and Littlest Pet Shop wasn't so lucky, so I am glad we lasted longer than expected.

Honestly I think G4 would still have done pretty well. Not as well without the popularity boost, but pretty well. They got Lauren Faust on board to make a cartoon because they were planning for this big MLP reboot. MLP has always been around, but G3 was dwindling, and the success of the Transformers movies most likely encouraged Hasbro to start rebooting other franchises. Sales happened because of the show and good marketing/advertising, so little girls would still have been buying the ponies like hotcakes.
As for the show, well, whether it stopped after Season 2 or Season 3 would depend on Lauren's tolerance of Hasbro's influence and ratings from the intended demographic. A lot of the memetic humor that started in Season 2 might be gone, but I'm sure you'd see some of the animation or writing crews' own inside jokes and gimmicks in there. The episodes would be more like Season 1, and honestly, I don't think they would have wrapped up quite as much in time—we may very well have never seen Twilight reach her destiny, Rarity get her shop, Dash become a Wonderbolt, or the CMC get their cutie marks. It would have most likely ended on an epic two-parter finale concocted by Faust that ends with rainbows and sunshine and harmony and Twilight & crew all frolicking/celebrating/photo/group hug/etc...and a message about friendship being the strongest magic there is, and nothing is impossible when you have friends.

I'm glad they overestimated our thoughtfulness and intelligence and gave them marks that actually mean something to them, instead.
