Factualy wrong, I have the Transformers Prime dvd commentary and it was very much the same proccess, Vogel is in it and he talks about how sometimes the boss, rhode island toy teams, they ask for stuff to be put in the show and you try to make it fit but sometimes you just have to do it regardless of if it'll work or not, which is why it's important to have creative writers who can twist toy mandate into something cool or funny.
So there is definitely stuff that gets pushed by it's core concept. The toy people have certain toys need that they just can't ignore and I'm certain Twilicorn was one of those considering that for the first 2 years they had Princess pony toys out for season 1 and 2 so it makes sense they'd push for a third toy of the same SKU for the third season and toy wave.

Songs were mediocre and unispired. Episode was a Christmas Carol remake, it's not ike every single show had one and they were equally boring and an excuse to have an easy christmas episode. Hearth's Warming Eve was an actual good way to do a chritmas episode.
While this one was better executed, I preferred the older Hearth's Warming episode. At least we learned some interesting stuff about Equestria and how it came to be while still getting a good story out of it.
