Semantic Error is about a low life hacker trying to scrape by in a futuristic Equestria.
So far Cold File (File) has managed to scrape up enough money to get him by for at least a week and has taken on another job.

Current job.
==============
Your target is the Bio-Dyne research data server. You are to obtain all available information on lot 1474 and erase it from their servers. I will send someone to pick up the information once you've obtained the files.
Once again it's 5000 bits once we get the files and an extra 2000 if they don't know what happened.
We appreciate your help in advance,
-Wintermute
==============

Currently you have this information from 4 emails used by Bio-dyne employees.
==============
>[email protected]
Melody is a 32 year old unicorn mare. Currently not in a relationship. She posts a lot of pictures of her pet guinea pig named Daisy in various clothing.She also periodically posts small poems. According to the information you've gathered she has her doctorate in biology with a minor bio-engineering.
>[email protected]
You find no information on this individual.
>[email protected]
Paul is a 28 year old male griffin. Most of what you find is pictures of him in various nice parts of the world. He is married with 4 children. According to his profiles, he works in file management.
>[email protected]
Slide Rule is an accountant, 38 year old earthpony mare that seems to have been in 4 relationships in the last 6 months. She has a lot of profiles on various dating sites and seems to enjoy going to clubs with her friends, Sapphire shores' music and movies about animals, as well as trying "anything new".
==============
You also managed to Access Bio-Dyne's employee services via Slide Rule's account. Which made you want to target Paul because his job may grant him access to the files you need.

[21165 Halfturn way apt. 102-165]
>You continue your search for the utilities box for Paul Apartment. so you can gain access to his computer from the hard-lines in his building. You know that this is kind of a stupid idea but you did walk all of the way here so...
>Putting that aside in your mind, you continue down the dark hall with your PDA lighting the way.
Eventually you find the boxes for fiber-optic communication, Utilities Control and electricity in Paul's apartment.
>You could toss a vampire clip on the fiber lines and break into his network or monitor traffic over the line but you will have to stay in this service hallway while you do it.

Hacking tools
==============
-Fingerprinter
Helps identify operating system.
-Key logger
Program that records keystrokes(Must be installed on host machine)
-Network Mapper
gives you a map of connected devices on a network.
-Password cracker
program that helps recovering passwords.
-Pinger
Measure how quickly data transfers between nodes.
-port scan
Looks for open ports. (Scan may alert firewall)
-Sniffer
Stops network traffic temporarily (seen as a system test)
-Zombie
Distract system with multiple requests from computers with this software on them.

>You realize that you forgot why you walked all the way here.
>You slump down on the ground and try to remember why you came here. How high were you!?
>You remember something about Paul working for Bio-Dyne's File management department and that for some reason you didn't want to see if you could use the Execumax office exploit to gain entry into his deck from home... Actually, come to think of it why didn't you!?.. Perhaps you really should find a way off the drugs.
>Forgetting about that you remember that you wanted to find the login information for his account on Bio-Dyne's servers since Paul might actually have access to the information you're trying to steal for the client with his File management job.
Point is, you have access to his computer and you know that he used it to access the Bio-dyne servers. The only question is, what do you do next?

What do you do?
>>
>>27346186
Should we use the Password cracker? That looks like it might do what we want, maybe.
We could also see if he has the login info in a text file somewhere. If he's stupid enough to not use a firewall or anything, maybe he's stupid enough to have confidential login information copied into an easily accessible file.

>You consider using a password cracker but you remember that you're not exactly trying a use brute force to enter a server right now, and the fact that you thought that using the password cracker right now worries you a bit.
>Instead you decide to look for a file with all of Paul's passwords in it but you don't find one. What you do find is more games installed on this computer than there probably should be as well as a bunch of pointless custom pointers and screensavers and a 80 gigabyte folder full of cartoon character porn labeled "homework"and a bunch of pictures of children inside a school and at an ice-cream parlor... It dawns on you that this is a child's computer.
>A shiver runs down your spine as you immediately think about that kid stoking it to those pictures you found. Something inside of you says this is wrong as you close the picture folder you opened.
>You realize that this kid probably has this thing set up to record passwords typed into the browser. You check and he does. You easily extract Paul's Bio-Dyne login information.
Username: Paul02733386
Password: S00p3rst1t10n
>Now that you have Paul's information you can easily log into his account on Bio-Dyne's servers, but it also occurs to you that you are currently piggybacking a connection to the larger world wide web through his personal line. If you log in here, it will look like access came from Paul's apartment on a computer that he previously used to log in, but you also run the risk of being caught by that unicorn you saw. Of course you could always try talking your way out of a situation where you are caught working down here, but you could also go home and access the server from your home deck, being sure to anonymize your presence but even if they don't know where you accessed from they can still see that it wasn't from one of their employee's normal IP's so this could be a way to completely cover your tracks.

>You decide that his is too good of an opportunity to pass up and log in right here and now.
>Fortunately Paul does have the correct level of access to pull up all of the information on lot 1474. You run a search of all of the instances of lot 1474 and mark them to be saved onto the tablet's memory and deleted from the source database, just as planned. Unfortunately due to the read/write speed of the tablet an speed of the connection it's going to take a few minutes for the process to be completed.
>A flashlight flips on right next to you, "Ayy! What do you think you're doing down here!"
>You're first instinct would be to simply bolt but your tablet still isn't done and you can't leave the tablet, Brandy is in there... and also part of the data you need...
>You consider your options while the unicorn stares you down. You've still got your gun, but you've never shot another living thing with it before. Sure you've pulled it on a few punks but you're no killer. Of course you could talk your way out of this but you need to think up a good lie first.

A trained professional would be able to tell the difference between data cables and power cables. We'd also have absolutely no reason to go near gas and water lines. If somebody couldn't do at least that much than they definitely wouldn't have a job.

If there are kids running around down here it sounds like his priority should really be tracking them down. We're an adult and more than capable of taking care of themselves; it's the kids that are likely to get themselves killed and he'll be liable for it since he decided to babysit a grown adult instead. Why doesn't he go get the kids and we'll be done and out of here by the time he finds them.
>>
>>27359632
This... tell him we aren't moving anywhere from this terminal and if we finish before he finds them we'll just head back the way we came from... nothing can kill us between here and the exit right? Clearly the kids are the priority.

"If there's kinds down here shouldn't looking for them be a higher priority than watching me?"
>The unicorn growls in frustration, "I need to get everyone out of here, and right now, you're the only one I've found. If I leave you here and you get lost in here I could end up locking you in this place."
"Come on, you're acting like I don't know the difference between a gas line and a communication line. I'm a professional, I'm not going to end up killing myself, and I'm pretty sure I'll be out of here before you lock up."
>"That doesn't fucking matter if you know what you're doing, there is always a possibility that one of these gas lines is loose which will asphyxiate you before you have time to tell anypony that you know what you're doing. That's why you're supposed to have a walkie-talkie on you with some one else checking up on your stupid ass every few minutes."
"Wait, do you have one?"
>"Yes, and their going to be checking up on me here soon. But that doesn't matter. I need to get you out of here before I can keep looking for those fucking kids, unless you want to help me look for the little shits."
The process on the PDA is about 30% done.
>Arguing with this unicorn is starting to get on your nerves but as soon as you're done here You'll have time and money to go out and do something. perhaps you could buy a robot and let Brandy control it or pick up some easy pussy or maybe you could get together with your land-lord and... Wow, it's weird. You didn't think about hooking up with Tyra until recently. Maybe she did something with... you don't know.
>Putting you thoughts back to the task at hand you know that you have to do something. The PDA is processing the information a lot slower than you thought. and this unicorn sounds like he's about to say something to the apartment staff.

Yeah our PDA is doing it's work right now We can tell him that we'll help look and when we found them we pick up the PDA on the way out. Lock that thing into the network access box. I am pretty sure if anything comes up, Brandy can handle the situation
