While the EqG bodytype isn't shit, it's an acquired taste. It's not inherently visually pleasing and even the designers know it. They use various tricks to fool the eye like shots that don't show the full characters ("cutting" the legs), and using clothes to make the legs look less long (by using long skirts that make the legs look normal by length comparison) or the torso look longer (in the case of Sunset's jacket and dress).
And I could be wrong here, but I think the body proportions have been tweaked over the years. I remember something going on with Pinkie in Friendship Through the Ages and the scene where SciTwi steals her magic.
The Dazzlings's heads are plenty recognizable, so changing their bodies wouldn't make them unrecognizable like for example autobot Warpath. The only problem is that a normal-proportioned body might alienate the viewer who is used to the grasshopper bodytype of EqG. If I were you I'd either go for a conventionally attractive hybrid body type like

In that case I suggest you read greens or books and listen to music (I highly recommend Iron Savior), and draw scenes that attract your attention. It'll also be a nice practice on visualization.
You might also want to try other fandoms as well, so you'll learn to draw a lot of different things rather than stagnate.

First of all you are going to need either a Monster Ripper (I haven't tried this with other energy drinks) or a bag of Nesquick. Monster works faster, but it also wears off faster. You need no milk for the cereal.
Second, you need an intense game with a pacing that's out of your control. The game itself mustn't require much thought. Personally I use G-Darius, Bio-Hazard Battle and Robot Unicorn Attack: Heavy Metal. Intense music helps but it's optional.
The idea is that the food stimulates your brain, while the game increases it's activity by forcing it to respond faster than usual. Only, these games demand reflex rather than information processing. The part of your brain that isn't engaged by the game will still be stirred by the food and the action, but since it won't be engaged, it'll think things on it's own.
Eventually you'll effortlessly come up with an amusing title (such as Full Metal Straightjacket or Shuriken Starfish) or an interesting line ("My everything hurts") or situation (Aria is trapped in an elevator with Sunset Shimmer who is giving birth. Aria is freaking out because it's a baby and not an egg that comes out Sunny's vagoo). In the case of the title, you just ask write a story about it. In this case the Shuriken Starfish could be about kid fishpony Dazzlings coming across and chasing a curious-looking starfish, or it could be about the Dazzlings being undercover ninjas working in a seafood restaurant.
In the case of the line, you can easily come up with a situation for it. In the case of the situation, you just build a story around it, first writing the story that leads up to it, and then taking it to it's natural conclusion.
One thing I want to do at some point is to gather a bunch of wacky ideas and try to connect them in a single absurd story. Like how they did in Archer Vice, first with the trailer and then the season itself.

I guess you'll have to experiment with what works for you. The point isn't to play videogames and have refreshments. It's to get stimulated. Different individuals have a different caffeine threshold. I can easily go to bed after a mug of coffee. Maybe you can achieve the same level of stimulation with a bottle of cola.
