I am a Shimmerfag but I don't think she should be permanently in the mane 6 or even permanently in the show. It would be cool to have her get an episode or help in a finale, but her home is in the human world now and that's where her friends are. We want to see her make amends with Celestia and some banter with Glimmer would be cool since they have so much in common, but Sunny's home is the human world now. She should stay there.

That is a load of bullshit. The writes did not want Sunset in the show. As a matter of fact, Sunset was meant to be a one time deal. EqG, according to the commentary of Rainbow Rocks, was meant to have be a single movie as they were told by Hasbro. Guess how that ended? With Sunset staying behind. Since it did good enough for a sequel they had to make up an excuse to jury rig the portal in Rainbow Rocks.
BOth FiM and EqG are separate stories and Sunset belongs to the EG story. The writers aren't gonna sacrifise telling FiM story for a character that isn't even part of the series. There's no proof of your bullshit lad.

It just depresses me that they still went with the redemption path and not still continue using Starlight as a villain. I mean my ideal way they could have handle with her would be having her be imprisoned for decades at season finale, as she realizes the things she's changing, but does not accept Twilight's friendship. And then have an episode where Twilight meets her in her cell, and they talk but in the end Starlight escapes the prison. Later on in that season she could work together with other past antagonists.
I'm also bummed out on how weak her Freudian excuse was.

No you retards. You just don't understand how to separate between two different characters if they have even slightly similar traits. I'm tired of seeing this point come up so here's a post. The only thing they have in common is that they have made past mistakes and they're magical unicorns. Sunset was purely driven by her ambition and she was willing to do anything to get it. Her character arc post EQG had to do with making up for that and moving past her mistakes.
Starlight is a collectivist ideologue who developed sociopathic tendencies due to lack of social interaction and she developed a warped view of what friendship is. Her arc has to do with literally unlearning what she indoctrinated herself into. The one thing I can say, is that because the Mane 6 were written as archetypes and Starlight wasn't. There is a subtle bit of friction in the writing now but that doesn't make her a Mary Sue. Honestly I think that they could've handled her backstory a bit better as opposed to brushing it underneath the rug in the season 6 premier, but at the same time I don't mind the direction they went with.
Twi has had many counterparts in the show. But then Trixie and Moondancer must be Sunset ripoffs too then right?

It's a thought that keeps popping up to my mind whenever I see Starlight in the show.
Besides that perhaps that "Twilight meets Starlight in prison" episode, we can have her act affable to her, and demonstrate overall good behaviour, in fact she's even motivating the other prisoner there to follow the path of redemption. Some ponies like Applejack, and a prison guard doubt something's suspicious, while Twilight and the prison warden believe her acts are genuine.
In reality, in an elaborate ruse, she's rebuilding a good reputation to leave the prison with their guard down. And that part with the "motivating other prisoners", same thing what she did to the ponies of "Our Town": a way for her to obtain more power to accomplish something, like breaking out of jail--which is what she does at the end of the episode.Hey maybe in EQG 4 they could have her seem like how she is in the show (did some bad things, and wants to fix her mistakes) but then in reality she caves in back into her villainy, or she never really reformed in the first place.

It was just a rhetorical question to show how Twilight has had many counterparts throughout the show and one isn't automatically a copy of the other if they take on a similar role.
I think maybe the show could've made things a bit tighter narratively, but I'm not sure they plan beyond a season or two. Most seasons are written as if they're the finale of the show in case it gets cancelled.
