This… doesn’t make any sense. It also might be one of the worst Friends Forever issues, it doesn’t make sense to introduce a monster in the last few pages, then have a new character be the reason it’s defeated. If they really wanted to use this "Mirrorca" in a comic with Luna and the CMC, it should have been a mini-adventure comic. They go on a short quest to find it, they do, and it doesn’t end with Luna killing it.
As it stands, it’s like a jumbled mess. It’s like Whitely was told to write about Luna and the CMC but instead wanted to make his own characters to focus on, and tried to do both.

If I can run a comparison for a second, this entire comic feels like an awful, twisted version of Celestia's Micro comic:

>Foal OCs everywhere
>OC who can't fit in (Inkwell/Thestra)
>Spontaneous situation resolved by OC (animated food/Mirrorwhale)
>Secondary conflict resolved by use of the OC's talent (teaching/x-ray stuff)
Unlike Inkwell in that comic, however, 'Thestra' (the fuck is up with that name, by the way) is basically a case study of how not to use an OC. She has virtually no character aside from 'oh, woe is me for I can't fit in', saves the day singlehandedly in a contrived and pointless situation drawing attention away from the FF actual issue, and due to awful pacing issues doesn't even get introduced until halfway in.
It's like Whitley read the Celestia Micro and went 'hey, I can do that too!' and then wrote this without any reference for what actually made that one good.

So I met Jay today, and we had a two hour conversation about general shit and the comics.
1) He said that Hasbro/IDW didn't send him any bibles so that's the reason Ponyville doesn't look right. He had no idea what it was supposed to look like. I informed him and he said he would work on that.
2) When he was sent the script for this issue he was told that the children and Dash/Spitfire were in a 'gymnasium' and that he didn't know it was supposed to be made of cloud. Again a bible would have helped him.
3) His next pony issue is going to be Wrestling related. (Do you smell what Boulder is cooking?)
4) Spitfire was his favorite character to draw.
5) On the sub cover that he drew, the pony eating Spitfires hair has a cutie mark of one of his original characters. (Bodie Troll)
He was really nice, and I for one loved the issue. He told me to keep trying to draw and fav'd me on Deviantart so I got that going for me I guess. Foot in the door with him and Katie Cook.

Alright at first I feel it makes a bit of sense her magic stops the reflection of light from skin and musle (wait then where the fuck are there veins (and there organs for that matter)) the orca appears to reflect spells back like light that's not that far fetched.
Where it goes wrong is in trying to fix 1 plot hole another is made.
If she just casts her spell at it then you have the question of how the spell used to make it vulnerable was able to get past.
To fix that the orca instead copy's spells cast in its vicinity but that makes the mirrors just a representation or source of its power not auctualy just a reflective surface for magic which means this shouldent make it vulnerable.
And also if it was just copying it why did she need to cast it on all of them my best guess is it's an aoe which at least explains them all getting it.
Honestly though I think he wrote himself into a corner the sensible ending would have been for Luna to run it through with a spear but that wouldent fit the story he was writing

Ditch the mirrorca and make the monster something with an big flat armored skeleton beneath it's skinn have her use her power to call out the unarmored spots to Luna while she fights it.

Not really a fan of this one. It features bare minimum interaction between the CMC and Luna (which is the point I would figure of a CMC/Luna FF) and instead chooses to focus on a fairly uncreative concept for an OC ("Waaaaaah I Can't Fit In") that gets to save the day for being so special.
Luna feels very OOC. She has such difficulty with children after spending three CMC episodes interacting with children? Not to mention Luna Eclipsed? and she's STILL harping about her experience as NMM after all the in-show development? How is a princess of sleep that looks into the dreams of children nightly so alien to the concept of a sleepover?
The final few pages come the hell out of nowhere (evil creatures roam Canterlot Castle at night? Since when, this is Final Fantasy random encounter levels of lazy writing, not to mention what a brilliant creature idea as a 'mirrorca') and serves to make no sense (If magic is reflected, just summon a hammer and smash it, this fails entirely to at all be dramatic or suspenseful). I mean, why have fillies sleep over in a castle that is apparently filled with monsters at night? Where are the guards, why didn't anyone tell the kid 'hey don't go this way monsters are afoot'?
In one way, I agree a great deal with the anon who said this feels very similar to the Celestia Micro: coming to accept others for their weirdness, only without any of the same charm and with more off-putting plot.

Art is typical Fosgitt laziness (check the skulls in the middle panel: it's literally the same asset copy-pasted three times / mirror flipped) and unappealing with its looney tune aesthetic, not much more I can say to that affect other than for the love of goodness stop copy-pasting. You're supposed to be a professional.
Can't say I enjoyed this one. Moral was good but a good moral doesn't save a story especially when that same moral's been done better. There's a little bit of witty dialogue here and there that I liked and to the writer's credit he nails Luna better than Cook does but the primary focus being set on an OC seems to break the concept of a good FF: the two main characters (or, four in this case) actually developing off of each other, which I feel was totally missed in this issue. Out of almost 100 panels in this comic, the CMC and Luna (the stars) exchange words with each other on roughly 12 of them.

Can anyone help me check if there's any differences between the comic volumes with the individual issues?
I've checked the ones from the 2nd bundle and I've found out some of the extra comics at the end of the individual ones from the 1st bundle (or back ups some call it?) are missing from the volumes.
The ones I've found are:
Friendship Is Magic: Volume 1
-Added "How Much is That Pony in the Window" comic from the physical issue #1 but is the quality crappier than the individual files from the first bundle?
Friendship Is Magic: Volume 3
-Missing Big Mac's scrap book from end of issue #10
Pony Tales: Volume 1
-Missing "The Trials of Hayseed Turnip Truck" from end of the Rarity Micro
Any other differences I've missed (besides missing pages as well)?

The first year seemed very promising, but looking back the warning signs were already there in Cook's writing in those first arcs. What makes it even worse is that now I'd take Cook's flanderized character-assassination bizarro-Equestria over Whitley and Anderson's holier-than-thou social agenda preaching any day.
It just baffles me how IDW and Curnow can put out a fanatstic quality series like TMNT out and abjectly fail at MLP:FiM at the same time, in a way that goes far beyond the typical 'nobody good wants to work on an all-ages series anyway'.

No lead writing. Ideas get approved by Hasbro, and then technically they should have been edited by Bobby to fit the tv series. Howeverm since he literally don't care and don't watch the show, he gives writers 100% of freedom when it comes to art and OC and original "subplots" (Celestia's romance, Cheerilees sister, killer apples etc)
Hasbro is allowing it as long as it doesn't contradict the show but they probably laugh at these stories and people who think that they going to reference them.

Fogsitt mimics (or rather, mocks) the Looney Toons style because he doesn't have an idea of how to draw.
The animators behind the Looney Toons were consistent with proportions and followed a character sheet to ensure that. Then they would stretch certain features to exaggerate an emotion so kids could more easily grasp what was going in the character's minds without exposition or dialogue.
The only thing Fogshit consistently does it give his characters long necks, contorts them into freak show proportions, and copy paste cutiemarks. He uses the Looney Toons style as a crutch so he can hide his shoddy workmanship instead of as another tool to make his art better.
It might be "cute and adorable" if you don't look at it for very long, but if that was the case you really shouldn't be here.
