I think one point of the show is to give little girls a strong perspective of friendship so that they are encouraged to cherish and put a lot of effort into their own friendships and bonds, so their childhood is more pleasant which helps them to be more prepared to deal with the real world once they grow up and realize cartoon friendships are not exactly realistic, or at least.. extremely rare.
