There's supposed to be styled after the characters from a show called Osomatsu-san, a slice-of-life comedy about a group of identical sextuplets, each with their own distinct personality traits. There have been a few parodies on Nico using MMD Pony models and audio from the show. Apparently some Japanese fans see a direct parallel between the personality traits of the Mane 6 and the sixtuplets on that show.
