She's always been a bit of an ass, but the things she did before the amulet were consented to, to an extent. She challenged them and then showed them up. It just came to bite her when they thought she was more powerful than she was, ending up humiliating herself. The amulet though got her to antagonize ponies and put them in harm's way with no reason, and kept making her increasingly nutty the longer she wore it (see: her distrust of wheels).
