TS: I can't really believe your story Anon, buildings with over a 100 levels? Flying boats bigger than Ponyville? And yet there's no magic in your world? Please.
>Growing tired of Twilight's berating, you go out into the world to prove her wrong.

That's the prompt that started it all. So what is thread about? It's about Anon bring human science and inventions to Equestria and a disbelieving Twilight.

its been over 3 months since WiK's last update
what happened?
>>
>>27083790
He was in the last thread. He isn't kill.
>>
>>27083790
He had two updates in the previous thread, with the last one being two days ago. Have you only been reading the pastebin? If so you you should know he cut the story the story into two parts because it was getting so long pastebin was having technical problems. He says so at the top of the pastebin and even links to it there.
>>
>>27068738
Truth be told he is something of a Mary Sue. I tried to temper this by giving him a relatively humble beginning and several defeats, but in the end the nature of this story demanded that he be OP. I didn't write this story thinking that his perspective would be the main draw, it's more about how the ponies see this strange otherworldly being. They don't know his motives, objectives, or abilities. He's a massive unknown who's mere existence destroys their world view. How well I got that across is unclear to me, you'd have to ask the readers.

Looking at my documents, I posted update 12 3 months ago tomorrow. I'm now posting update 41. Not sure where you've been, but I've been right here.

>You are Anonymous.
>You are confused.
>You’ve been told by two sources that the strange power of this world stopped working for a while.
>And indeed you’ve even observed it failing en masse with your satellite network.
>Yet the readings at your dig site did not drop, rather they spiked.
>This must mean something.
>Something important.
>You really should maybe stop the dig until you know what’s going on.
>A wave of crushing sorrow flows over you.
>Followed by a surge of orgasmic bliss, along with the thought of digging.
>Why aren’t you digging?
>You can’t remember.
>And though there are digital recordings you could refer to you honestly can’t be bothered to check them.
>You need to dig.

>You are Anonymous.
>The other one.
>The unfeeling one.
>Something is crazy wrong here.
>Your primary self is becoming more and more obsessed with the dig.
>And the thought patterns coming from the other you thought patterns are erratic at best.
>All autodoc diagnostics suggest that both of you are in excellent health.

“Weren’t we about to stop the dig?”

>Your shared consciousness feeds you extreme disgust at the notion.
>No thoughts are offered as a reply, just feelings.
>Yeah. You’re stopping the dig.
>Except that your orders are being overridden.
>>
>>27084236
>You test your network access by ordering the manufacture of a cube up in your first orbital foundry.
>It’s produced in an instant.
>Yet when you try to cut power from the drill?

[ERROR 5: ACCESS DENIED]

>You’re hit by sadness and even pain after the attempt.
>There’s no room for doubt.
>Something is wrong here.
>But the autodoc says everything’s fine.
>You have two choices.
>You could assume all is well and enjoy the mind numbing bliss that occasionally comes your way.
>Or you could not be an idiot, shut down the connection between the two of you, and try to figure out what’s going on.
>Severing that connection is not easy.
>You need to remind yourself at every step that it is a necessary action.
>And when it’s gone…
>Nothingness.
>There’s no hope, no joy, no pleasure.
>But there’s also no despair, no sorrow, no pain.
>You briefly consider abandoning your task now that there’s nothing to drive you.
>Now that you have no desires of your own.
>But you still have your duty.
>Your obligations.
>You WILL protect your other half.
>With or without your- his help.
>It’s strange to think of the two of you as separate.
>You’ve been one for your entire life.
>Step one is to figure out what’s wrong.
>If the autodoc says nothing, it means it’s something you don’t understand well.
>It doesn’t take an organic supercomputer hybrid to figure this one out.
>You contact the one known as lizard bro.
>No answer.
>He must be busy.
>You contact the one known as black horse.

>You are Luna.
>You are alone.
>Your Bolts went to speak with their loved ones.
>To let them know they’re well.
>The medical staff can scarcely believe that they’re alive.
>Under ordinary circumstances you’re sure they’d have been kept for observation.
>But the hospital is already totally overwhelmed with injured.
>The strange magical failure the other day had a great many consequences.
>There’s rioting, looting, and general panic.
>>
>>27084242
>Now that you have the bolts off of your mind, it’s high time you resolved this issue.
>The visitor assured you he had no part in it, and you tend to believe him.
>Were the blunt honesty from before not enough, you might believe him on the simple fact that he’s yet to use magic in any manner.
>You need to address the nation to calm them.
>But you still cannot be seen.
>Your sister is in no condition to do a public address either.
>So you must rely on Sparkle to deliver the speech.
>Yes. The hypochondriac will surely calm the masses.
>Perhaps you should try and get ahold of Cadance…
>The rectangle just made a chime.
>You retrieve it.

>“Many manuscripts make mention of magical mental manipulation. What details can you provide?”

“Thank you so much! I am in your debt, the wounded ponies seem to have recovered.”

>”Time is a factor.”

>Mental manipulation, and time is a factor?
>Meaning that it’s happening now!

“Manipulation or domination?”

>”Explain the difference.”

“Manipulation involves one subtly altering the underlying framework of the mind. You can suppress certain memories, change general demeanor, and suppress or encourage certain emotions. You can make one love their bitter enemy, hate their closest friend, and remember a false history. It doesn’t allow one to control specific details of behaviour, just general patterns.”

>”Who can do it?”

“Short term nearly any unicorn who knew the spell. It is of course illegal and uncommon information, but every now and then somepony figures it out. Long term perhaps a half dozen ponies and Discord. It is difficult to cast and requires a constant expenditure of energy so great skill and endurance are needed. Even the most powerful of magi would end the spell when it was no longer needed.”

>”Discord? I thought he was a legend.”

>Seriously?
>This being fought Discord several times and still thinks him just a legend?
>>
>>27084252

>He has no idea what he’s been fighting.
>He doesn’t realise that the creature he cut in half is one of the most dangerous beings in the world.

>”We can discuss that later. Back to the issue, what about domination?”

“Domination is a spell that allows total control of emotion and the ability to implant or remove ideas and memories. This effectively allows perfect control over the victim’s actions. Since it is involved in more direct manipulations instead of general changes it requires constant focus to maintain.”

>”Who can do it?”

>Pfft.
>Basically nobody.
>Last instance you can think of is…

“A group of a few thousand unicorns performing a complex ritual.”

>”And how might one stop said ritual?”

“By finding the ones casting it and interrupting their casting. It should be easy to find these individuals as they must be able to see their target to make any changes.”

>”Why would somebody wish to dominate me to make me excavate a giant ball?”

>That question raises so many of your own.
>If he’s being dominated, how is he able to ask you about it?
>Who would be able to execute such a feat?
>You ask the last question first.

“Giant ball?”

>”A massive orb near the heart of the planet.”

“What does it look like?”

>”I’ve only seen a small portion of its surface, so it may bear features I’ll not list. It seems to be a perfect indestructible sphere, about two hundred meters in diameter. It’s surrounded by a crazy strong magical field. Also, the magic around it got stronger when you said yours stopped working.”

>Heh.
>That almost sounds like-
>No way.
>Oh HELL NO!
>You can’t think of the words to begin to describe how bad that is!
>You might be wrong.
>But there’s no way you’re taking this chance.

“Don’t touch it, don’t get near it, and most certainly DO NOT dig it up!”

>You wait for the display to clear, to let you know that the message has been received.
>>
>>27084258
>Several seconds pass without the otherwise nearly instantaneous process occurring.
>Until finally…

[NO SIGNAL]

>You’re not sure what response you were hoping for, but it certainly wasn’t that.

>You are Spike.
>You haven’t heard the bad news.
>As far as you’re aware, Celestia is still the biggest problem.
>That’s why you’re walking along the edge of the mountain range, with a particularly heavy backpack in tow.

>”Y’all are sure you don’t want me to carry that for ya?”

“Yes, Applejack. I’m doing this myself.”

>”Then why in tarnation are we here?”

“I want witnesses.”

>”Shouldn’t we have brought Twilight as a backup plan?”

“Then everypony would just assume she did it.”

>”But what are you going to DO?”

>Thank you, Rainbow.

“I was hoping somepony would eventually ask that question. See, there are ways to interfere with unicorn magic. Rarity, would you mind? I wish to demonstrate.”

>”Oh, yes! Of course!”

>”You sure? There won’t be any lasting effects, but I have it on good authority that it isn’t pleasant.”

>Her horn starts to glow regardless of your warning.
>She’s been behaving differently since your outburst.
>So eager to please.
>Maybe she feels guilty?
>No matter, you don’t care what they think of you right now.
>After all they’ll think of you very differently soon enough.
>Rarity’s horn starts to glow.
>You reach into your bag and grab a fistfull of dust.
>Without waiting to see what she’s picking up, you hurl it in her face.
>There’s a bright flash of light and a complete absence of any magical aura.
>Rarity nearly falls over, but Applejack props her up.

“Arcane dust. It’s way more conductive to magic than air is, so the energy she was building up diffused.”

>”Oh my goodness, Rarity are you okay?”

>”Quite alright Fluttershy. Just a tad disoriented dizzy, nothing to worry about.
>>
>>27084267
>”THAT’S your plan? Spike, if you’re going after CELESTIA of all ponies what makes you think you can get close enough to throw stuff at her?”

>Thank you again Rainbow.

“Yes. That’s the trick isn’t it. For months she’s been dealing with the very same problem, always unable to get close enough to her target to do anything.”

>You drop your backpack.
>You open it up.

“See, HER enemy had found a way to throw tiny chunks of metal crazy fast and crazy far. Too far for most spells to reach.”

>You pull out your device.
>It wasn’t easy to make.
>collecting scrap metal, welding it with your dragonfire, filing off the unwanted bits…
>Designing it was the easy part.

>”It’s a big tube with a handle.”

“Pretty much, Applejack. Pretty much.”

>”IT BEGINS!”

>You’re not sure what Pinkie’s freaking out about.
>You grip the two handles on the barrel, letting your device hang below.
>You slant it up, aiming into the mountain range.
>You spit a bit of fire onto the back.
>The heat causes the black powder to burn.
>A loud blast rings out and you nearly lose your footing.
>Moments later there’s a small explosion up on the mountainside.
>You lower your claw cannon.

“It’s pretty much just a smaller cannon. Not useful for most things since it’s way too imprecise and takes way too long to load.”

>You start pouring powder into the barrel.
>Then you start tamping it with a straight rod of iron.

“I wanted to go with a larger blast, but Twilight says she’s in a cave. Don’t wanna risk a cave in.”

>”So, this is your entire plan? You know she’s still strong, right? Like, crazy strong?

“How are you doing, Rarity?”

>”Just… give me a moment, please.”

“That good enough for ya, Dash?”

>”No! You’re not going in there alone, I’m coming with.”

“But Twilight said it’ll be too hot. I should be fine because, you know, DRAGON, but what about you?”
>>
>>27084276
>”Yeah… I don’t expect that to be a problem. Doesn’t look too hot to me.”

>You’re confused.
>She can apparently see it.

>”Yeah. Look up at the cave. Do you see it glowing?”

“Is that the right cave?”

>”Pinkie?”

>Pinkie removes her paper hat, which you do not recall seeing before.
>She unfolds it.

>”Yup!”

“Well, what are we waiting for?”

>You begin your scramble to the entrance.

>”This is a really bad idea!”

“I know, Dash. I know.”

>Rainbow, Pinkie, and Applejack follow you up.
>Fluttershy stays with the still dazed Rarity.
>You signal for everypony to be quiet.
>You grip your cannon tight as you walk through the entrance.
>You have your good eye zoom in.
>You don’t like what you see.
>You put down your cannon.
>You step outside.

“We’re going to need a medic! Dash, get Twilight here yesterday! Rarity, do you know ANY first aid magic? Pinkie, PLEASE tell me there are at least some bandages in your mane!

>You are Twilight Sparkle.
>You came as fast as you could.
>And you gave Princess Celestia the best stasis spell you could manage.
>Not as good as what Luna’s ponies got, but you’re alone on this one.
>Hopefully it’ll be enough to get her where she needs to go.
>You sit down, hard, exhausted from the round trip to the cavern.
>You chastise yourself for thinking of your discomfort.
>Celestia was on fire.
>She’s being shipped off to Canterlot hospital.
>Hopefully they’ll give it a serious try.
>She looks pretty dead.
>But you have to hold out hope.
>And if anypony can survive what happened, it’s Celestia.
>But recovery is another matter.
>It was quite striking.
>Charred blood and flesh cover the walls of the cavern.
>Chunks of burnt bone litter the ground, and when you arrived, she was without her horn.
>From what you can tell, she had a moment of clarity when magic stopped working, and used it to bash her own head against the wall until her horn broke.
>>
>>27084283
>Considering the other things that were happening at the time, you’re frankly amazed that she even thought of her condition.
>She was totally nude, fur and feathers both burnt to ash.
>Which, of course, revealed her horribly burnt flesh.
>And her legs?
>Standing on nearly molten rock is not good for your health.
>You’re pretty sure they’re going to wind up being amputated.
>It’s lucky the magic didn’t stay gone for much longer.
>She would have died for sure.
>At least now, there’s hope.
>You try to put it out of your mind. There’s nothing you can do at the moment.
>It all rests on Spike.
>And the ape.

“Are you sure it’ll help her, Spike?”

>”No. Might as well ask though.”

“And you’re sure it CAN help? She was in pretty bad shape…”

>”Yeah, and I DIED.”

>You flinch.
>You really wish he wouldn’t say that.
>The idea of losing him like that…
>No point in dwelling on that thought.
>He’s here, even if he’s missing a few parts.
>You still love him.
>And you still love Celestia.
>You hate asking that thing for help.
>You don’t trust it.
>And you’re pretty sure that it’s responsible for what happened.
>But it’s pretty much all you can do to help her.
>Once the ape declines, you’ll go straight to Canterlot.
>You’re not leaving her side until she wakes up.

>”That’s weird.”

“What? What is it?”

>He passes you the rectangle.
>On it are words that are nearly worse than outright refusal.

[NO SIGNAL]

“It severed communication with us?”

>Was this its plan all along?
>To lull you into a false sense of security then…
>Then stop talking?
>No, that’s stupid.

>”NIGHTMARE MOON! RUN!”

>Sounds like Luna’s back.
>And she’s not wearing her cloak?
>She bursts through the front door, gasping desperately for breath.
>Mane and tale both in total disarray from a high speed flight.
>She nearly collapses on one of the beds, choking down as much air as she can manage.
>>
>>27084288
“Princess, we found Celestia and-”

>”No time.”

>She spends a few seconds swallowing air before speaking again.

>”Bigger problem.”

“But she’s horribly injured! Like, maybe… maybe…”

>”Much much bigger problem. Titan.”

>Your heart skips two beats.
>A chill runs through your entire being.
>Celestia might be the lucky one.

That's it. The original plan was to give Celestia's story a bit more focus at its end, but it wasn't turning out to be very interesting. Instead I used it to set up that they're freaking the fuck out. The issue before them must be massive if they're more worried about this than the charred pony princess.

Thats better option than a pair of swords and grappling hook, right?

Still, going by how Luna&Twi shit their nonexistant pants, just a giant robot might not cut it. Even Pinkie might not help. Even giant robot Pinkie controlled by actual Pinkie might not help.

>You've just arrived at the embassy

>Checking the time, you see that you're 33 minutes early

>A door opens, and you are approached by a B1 corporal

>"Greetings sir, the Griffon Ambassador has been waiting for two hours now. I highly suggest you meet him immediately."

>What?
>Two hours?
>Taking a look at your gauntlet it reads 11:36 A:M

>"Why certainly not! I definitely didn't do all of that just to beg for your toys again! To be honest, I've called you here for a much more... personal.. reason."

"Just tell me, what are you? Who are you?"

I spent like hours explaining that was what was gonna happen, just that nothing was happening in the beginning
I was setting up everything for the flashback to anon helping horserussia develop weapons beyond basic crossbows and cannons
no one seemed to actually listen

also ye I realize it's probably not that great
but I only started world building and settinn up the outline for what I wanted to happen yesterday

You need to work on your formatting. You're occupying this weird space where it's neither green format nor prose, and it's kind of obnoxious.

Also, looking over some of your comments in the other thread you've got a good amount of work to do on your world building. Most of what you laid out just doesn't make any fucking sense from either a tactical or strategic standpoint. Now, if that's just anon fucking things up: fine. However, you're laying this out as heads of state and professional soldiers are making these decisions and even if ponies can't into war, they aren't going to make decisions that are that pants on head stupid unless its a comedy and its not funny enough to be a comedy.

tl;dr - The idea isn't inherently flawed, but both it and your writing need work.

My problem was I first caught sight of the story on a post that made it seem like some self-insert god-like being OC cringe-worthy dreg you'd find on FimFiction.

With my second run-in with a post from the story I decided to give it a read. While the character is slightly Mary Sueish in a way, all the characters are still engaging enough I feel I have to apologize for my jumping to conclusions with that out of context first pass.

Nah it's fair enough and you are right though in a way about the mary sue shit but that extends to pretty much every fucking general.
now the slave pony threads have tons of OC and self insert shit few other threads also but i mean really if you and me and others are here reading this sooo yeah you kinda know what to expect you can tell them what you think of there story they might improve might not.

Hell to be totally honest i see more people that SHOULD just fucking write on FimFiction due to there quality and the fact that Fimfiction would make it easier on them than posting shit in a general.

like the guy who does the Queen umbra threads yeah dudes burnt out from posting every day fimfiction would of been better for him gave him more time etc.

>"Anon! This is a Princess' castle. I don't carry smut magazines in my library!"
"No, not porn. Something more challenging mentally. Daring Do isn't a book for adults. It's for young teenagers."
>"I will have you know that Daring Do is the most popular book series by ponies of all ages. From the youngest of foals, to somepony like Granny Smith. What's not to love?! There's action, there's romance, and of course the good guy always wins in the end."
"That's it Twilight. It's so predictable. So dull! So safe!"

"It's insulting, and you as an intellectual who enjoys books should realize that such drivel is no where near what a good book can make you feel. There are more feelings then joy at seeing the good guy win in the end. There's sadness, joy, anger, disgust, all that and more!"

Come on, before Octavia gets back, and yells at me for letting another friend crash on our couch. I swear, sometimes that mare forgets she started out on my couch down in my parent's basement."
>She shrugs, and trots off, her neon and electric blue tail swaying with each step she takes.
>"So Anon. What did you even do back on Earth? So many ponies are interested in knowing more, but Princess Twilight just seemed to keep you locked in that castle just to study you herself."
"Well I used to just be a shift manager at some stupid grocery store."
>"Really that's it? Just telling ponies what to do? Naw, there's no way, you don't seem like the suit wearing 9 to 5 kind of guy."

While it doesn't exactly fit the theme of the thread, I personally am fine with featuring this story here. Technology and art are both products of thought and creativity; the main distinction is the intended purpose and in many cases that line is blurry.

Twilight was a bit quick to anger in my opinion. Maybe that would have made sense if you'd established that their relationship was strained in the first place, but here it just sorta came out of the blue. Making the argument last longer might have been good; don't go and rewrite this though, as you'll never finish if you keep going back and revising.

As for what I think? It's too short to judge. I suppose I can at least say that you have decent sentence structure, which puts you ahead of most people. One thing though, ellipses are three periods, not four to six.

I was thinking Twilight would be one to quickly anger when you insult her favorite thing, which is books. Especially since we've seen her geek out over Daring Do, and I think we all know what happens when you insult a nerd's favorite thing. they tend to get angry, only this time, the nerd has some power behind her.

You cut her off. "no-no-no, princess! It doesn't matter, this isn't a book! I can't /go/ and just /make/ a city! Its about time! Not about power!"
Looking at celestia, and scaring the other ponies in the room, you say- "I just wanted to show twilight that the human world is technologically powerful without magic. Not, not to make a city from the dirt."

>20 E Lancaster St, the larger building, is coming along as well

>No matter what happens, it seems like there are always ponies abandoning their lives elsewhere and coming to Lancaster
>Clearly, not everyone is like Twilight
>Today, though, your mind needs to be elsewhere
>Yesterday was the grand opening of the new capitol building, and today, you're moving in
>A few craftsponies who you remember were a part of the original settlers have gifted you a handmade oak desk
>It's beautiful, and you thanked them profusely
>It barely fit in the elevators, too
>The two lifts are working nonstop today to move furniture throughout the building
>You're setting up offices for the departments you created yesterday
>Executive Order 2: Creation of a Department of State for the establishment and maintenance of diplomatic relations between Arcadia and other countries
>Executive Order 3: Creation of a Department of Treasury for the management of government revenue
>Executive Order 4: Creation of a Department of Justice for the creation and enforcement of the law
>Executive Order 5: Creation of a Department of Commerce for the promotion of Arcadian industries
>Based on your planning, those departments will help Arcadia keep making history
>And what was the first Executive Order?
>Well, you've thought long and hard about how you want Lancaster to look in the future, and you've decided that it would be best to keep the taller buildings in one area
>So, you're dividing Lancaster into two
>The half north of Lancaster St, where the capitol building is located, will be a low-density area

>>
>>27117895
>You walk through the building and help when you're needed
>And you're needed a lot
>Most of the questions can't be answered immediately, because all the questions are the same
>Your new departments need a direction to head in
>When you created the departments, you provided mission statements, but you haven't had the time to delegate responsibilities and assign tasks and all that fun stuff
>Most of that can be delegated to your Chief of Staff, but he needs training, and you can't do it right now, because you're too busy making sure your new Cabinet has a place to write
>After a solid eight hours of doing nothing but heavy lifting and planning political courses of action in your head, you decide it's time to start working on your other pet project
>There was a small area on the first floor of the Lancaster Building that wasn't taken up by the lobby or units for the building's staff, and you've decided that's where you're setting up shop
>You need to hire architects and city planners, because your time is going to be taken up by getting an entire nation off the ground
>And in that small suite of offices, you're going to build a city

Oh yeah, that's the fast inverse square root code from Quake. It was used for a lighting effect I believe and is incredibly efficient compared to all other methods of computing the inverse square root of a number.

I would seriously recommend looking it up, it's an interesting read.
>>
>>27129996
Main problem is that guys who code like this tends to do it EVERYWHERE.
It's perfectly fine for something where performance is critical like a low level graphic/physic/whatever routine, but otherwise you are just making thing needlessly harder for whoever is going to have to make correction/ improvement/expansion after you.

Dunno how projects work in your country, but in mine we are always understaffed, asked to work with obsolete libraries and/or one for which we never had training, the deadlines are laughable and specifications are a legendary 40 players raid drop.
The probability that someone else with even less preparation than you will have to edit your code are near 100% ... and if your code look like that, it's going to turn very badly.
Clean, dumb and "girly" code guarantee that your software will work and will have a chance to be completed inside the deadlines. If performances are perceptibly bad, you can always rewrite the bottlenecks "properly" afterward.

End of rant. This was totally pony-related.

yes, magic, to create ball bearings. what you are basically saying is "look twilight, theres a wheel, you use it by making something round and you can roll stuff with it" why don't they already know what wheels are even if they have trains and carts? obviously magic.

Whatever happened to detron crewman? Whatever. I'm curious to see what you can make out of the confusing mess that is Warframe Lore.

I'm not happy with this update, but there have been several before that I thought were lacking yet still had a pretty good reception. We'll see.

>You are Anonymous 2.
>You’re pretty sure you should be freaking out.
>Communications are being shut down.
>It happened when you were asking about mind control and that orb, and you’re pretty certain that that’s no coincidence.
>It’s unfortunate that you didn’t get more information before it happened, because now you’re forced to make some assumptions.
>Assumption one. It doesn’t know about you, or at the very least doesn’t understand you.
>Otherwise you would be dead, it would be pretty trivial to do.
>You can surprise them then.
>Hopefully.
>Assumption two. It doesn’t understand the facilities that surround you.
>This is a fairly safe assumption, whoever it is isn’t human.
>And even if they were, they still couldn’t understand it.
>Self replicating and self improving machines quickly develop complexity beyond the creator’s design.
>And you- he was only able to build them thanks to massive databanks.
>It’s inconceivable at this point that any single being could actually understand this place as a whole.
>And whatever’s doing this wants at least some of your facilities online.
>It demands that this dig be finished.
>Odds are that nothing will get shut down unless it interferes with the dig.
>Assumption three.
>Black horse knows something important.
>There’s no reason to cut you off if she didn’t have relevant information.
>You need to reestablish communications with her.
>>
>>27137594
>Assumption four.
>What you’re seeing is the stronger kind of mental control black horse was talking about.
>The being doing it has to directly control everything and can’t rely on you prime to do anything for them of his own free will.
>You needn’t worry too much about what you know, you need to worry about what they know.
>Assumption five.
>Whoever’s in charge won’t know how to use the database.
>While it seems fairly safe to assume that the neural implants will continue to work just fine, they wouldn’t be familiar with your computer system.
>In the long term they might figure something out by poking around at it, but for now they should be cut off from digital memory.
>So what does this all mean?
>Well, you’re going to have to act with some degree of subtlety.
>If your actions are similar enough to the unthinking machines going about their existing programs, you can continue to hide your existence.
>Unless you already blew your cover, of course. It’s possible they know about you from your attempts to communicate and simply haven’t found you yet.
>Maybe they don’t know enough about you to issue the order to destroy you.
>Maybe they need a name, or a location, or a general description.
>Too many unknowns.
>Next, unexpected behaviour should be unnoticed so long as there are no visible changes.
>Anything that happens within the computer network should be hidden.
>Hopefully.
>You can’t revoke other you’s write privileges on any of the existing computers.
>Not within any reasonable time frame at least.
>He understandably set it up to make sure he couldn’t get locked out.
>But perhaps you could set up your own network and rewire some of the gear to that one?
>Maybe hijack the whole place.
>If you can get enough of it under control before being noticed, you should be able to shut him down without any real risk of retaliation.
>If you get spotted too soon, you might have a fight on your metaphorical hands.
>>
>>27137603
>So you need to build a mainframe of your own, and reroute everything to it.
>And you need to build it somewhere that’s hidden.
>Hiding it should be simple enough.
>Then, once you have a private network established, you need to get ahold of black horse.
>You need to know what’s going on.

>You are Spike.
>You are proud of yourself for maintaining bladder control.

>”TITAN? They’re real? They’re BACK? Are you SURE?”

>”Yes, yes, maybe, and no, but I can think of no other explanation.”

>Everyone knows the story of the titans.
>It’s trash.
>Sounds like the writer was trying too hard.
>That’s not important though.
>They made the world, filled it with life, and gave everyone magic.
>Then they simply watched.

>”What do we do? WHAT DO WE DO?”

>They watched as countless thinking beings toiled, starved, and perished as they struggled against the hostile world they were placed in.
>They watched as sickness plagued the lands, ending countless lives indiscriminately.
>They watched as the bodies they made withered and failed.

>”Why would they come back?”

>”HOW SHOULD I KNOW?”

>Then something unexpected happened.
>The sapient species that still lived started to settle down and tame the lands.
>They built shelter and discovered medicines.
>Life was still hard.
>None of the problems had been solved.
>But many had been alleviated.
>That’s when the Titans finally stepped in and touched the world.

>”We must prepare ourselves! They are NOT our masters!”

>”Luna, you know as well as I do that there’s nothing we can do to stop them! We can’t resist them!”

>They intervened in the troubled world, exerting their terrible wrath.
>All as one, every single Centaur fell over. Dead.
>Before the bodies even had a chance to cool, every sapient being in the world heard an otherworldly voice in their heads.
>”Amuse us!”
>>
>>27137610
>”So what, we submit to them? We turn on our neighbors and allies? You’re supposed to be the princess of FRIENDSHIP, not treachery!”

>”You can’t have friends if you’re dead!

>The message was clear.
>They wanted blood, and they would get it.
>One way or another.
>Anyone who didn’t comply was at the mercy of the Titans.
>And the Titans had none.

>”You weren’t around last time, foal! Don’t assume to know what awaits, don’t think you know what it’s like! We are FREE, we are NOBODY’S prisoners, and I will NEVER be a slave! Besides, there may be another way. They aren’t likely to do us any harm just yet.”

>”What do you mean?”

>The whole world erupted into war.
>Hundreds of years passed, and the number of combatants dwindled.
>Everyone was exhausted.
>Everyone was weakened.
>And all throughout, the titans whispered their messages into everyone’s minds.
>”Too slow.”
>”Too weak.”
>”Pathetic.”
>They finally left the troubled world, disgusted by the feebleness of its denizens.

>”The visitor found something, deep beneath the surface I’m not certain of what it is, but based on the description it definitely seems to be of Titan origin. From what I can tell based on what they told me before we lost contact, something is dominating him and making him dig it up. I can’t say why that object is important but it’s pretty clear that they want it.”

>”If it’s being dominated, why can it still question Its own actions?”

>It took millennia, but the world came to a relatively peaceful era.
>Civilization rebuilt, and became greater than ever before.
>But even then, war would return.
>Any number of reason has been used as justification, but now it was their own choice.
>Their own mistake.
>Methods, weapons, and spells were refined and perfected.
>Armies continued to grow larger and larger as superstates began to form.
>And tactics grew progressively more brutal.

Nice, I like it. There's a lot of room for interesting conflict with this premise, and many directions to take it.

I agree a with >>27110828 that the Twilight scene could be a bit more involved, but I read it as a cartoony sort of intro - if she tossed him, he'd have bounced. I doubt Twilight would really let him become homeless if he didn't find somewhere else to stay, and would probably let him back in if he apologized.

Just two genres of music is pretty hard to believe if they have the technology to do complex electronic music. I wonder if there will be an in-world explanation for this. Maybe Luna was the patron of the arts, and things have stagnated under Celestia's "harmony", where the good guys always win and ponies go to bed at night?
>>
>>27137625
>Were the Titans to return, they’d be pleased. Perhaps even proud.
>The nations of the world were now capable of the havoc they sought.

>”Is that really the strangest thing it’s done? We need to stop this before he finishes the excavation!”

>”Not only that, if someone else has dominated him, don’t they have his arsenal? What if they decide to use it?”

>Some say they still watch, biding their time.
>But don’t worry about that, young one.
>It’s just a story.
>Stories can’t hurt you.

>”Right. So we need to stop the domination. Now.”

>”Indeed. We must find the point of origin.”

>”I’ve never really studied mind control magic, but you’d need to see your target.”

>That doesn’t make any sense.
>Nearly the whole factory is enclosed.
>And it’s so heavily defended and so totally monitored that there’s no way anything could sneak in.
>Sure, maybe they could teleport in, but they wouldn’t have time to cast the spell.
>And if it’s a ritual?
>How would you set it up? How would you get that many wizards in there?
>No, Twilight’s wrong.

“Says who?”

>”It’s common knowledge, Spike. Targeted spells require visual contact.”

“Yeah, but WHY?”

>”Well, nopony’s ever found a way to do it without! There are theories about how you might be able to do it with enough magic, they all revolve around casting the spell on every single point where the target MIGHT be, but there’s no practical way to test them.”

“If they have enough magic. Like, say, a Titan.”

>Twilight blanches.
>Luna nods.

>”I fear you may be right, Spike. I can think of none other that would wish to do this, nor any who would be capable.”

“Right, so we need to mess up a Titan’s spell. Its abilities are mostly unknown. We’re better off thinking of what it CAN’T do right now, because we’ll never figure out what it CAN do. Twilight, what’s impossible to do with magic? Not difficult, not impractical, IMPOSSIBLE.”
>>
>>27137632
>”For us plenty of things, but for a Titan? Nothing! How could anything like THAT have the same limits as us? We’re all going to diethere’snothingwecando-”

“Luna, snap her out of it.”

>A quick slap across the face later, Twilight stops.

“Thank you. Titan magic is the same as yours. They’re subject to the same laws, the same universal constants. I guarantee it.”

>”How can you be so sure?”

>”Indeed! How could any beings make all life in this world if they have the same obstacles as us?”

“Not obstacles, limits. If you step outside and look south, what will you see? Could YOU build that?”

>”Of course not!”

“Why not? The visitor follows all the same physical laws as us. If you knew how those things work you could make them too! Chemistry behaves the same for him, lightning behaves the same, physics, mathematics, EVERYTHING works the same for him. And yet he does impossible things with ease. They’re better at this than we are, but they have to follow the same rules. What are those rules?”

>”Well… Law one. All forms of magical interaction require a flow of magical energy. you can’t cast a spell if you don’t have enough magic ready, or if you have nowhere to let it flow. Law two. Magic will naturally flow from a state of high concentration towards a lower concentration. Magical buildup inside of you will leak out over time, so the limit there is an equilibrium problem-”

“You’re drifting. There might be some way to store it perfectly, some material that it doesn’t leak through. The law here is that magic diffuses.”

>”Right. Law three. Magic is equivalent. You can change magic into other kinds of energy, and vice versa. Law four, not exactly a law of magic but it still applies. Energy is permanent. It can change form and be stored, but a closed system will always have the same total energy.”

“The visitor agrees with you, with the addendum that matter and energy are the same thing.”
>>
>>27137641
>”Wha-”

“Now is not the time.”

>“Right. Law five. The capacity for work in a closed system may not be increased. This isn’t widely accepted and we don’t really have any solid evidence-”

“Visitor agrees, with a few caveats that don’t really matter in this case.”

>”That’s it. That’s all we have.”

“Okay, that’s half the story covered. Luna, tell us about Titans.”

>”What is there to say? There were two Titans-”

“TWO?”

>”Two, massive beings in the sky that ignored all attacks directed at them. They didn’t even retaliate, it wasn’t worth their time. Their shells seemed impervious to everything.”

>”Wait a minute, how do you know that?”

>”Well, obviously we tried to fight back, it just didn’t work. Every few centuries they would open their shells, and everyone’s magic would grow weaker for a while.”

“And WHY are you just telling us that NOW?”

>”There are a lot of things on my mind right now! The visitor found something that looks like a Titan shell-”

>”IT’S RIGHT BELOW US?”

>”No. This object is too small and round. But it looks similar, has an intense magical aura about it, and seems nigh on indestructible.”

“Well, what exactly IS it?

>”Well, it’s only a guess, but…”

That's it. I'm a tease. Paste (finally) updated http://pastebin.com/430ryWVh

I wanted it to come as a bit of a surprise that the titans were such bastards, so I had Luna be pretty vague when she first mentioned them. She never said what anyone thought of them, just that they made the world, observed, and left in disgust. Some of you didn't fall for it, but I tried.

This story has always been something of a cosmic horror from the pony perspective. They're forced to question their significance in the universe as an impossible being from space shakes their world perspective. The Titans are meant to be similar, but draw strength from a more familiar place.

So, what's in the box? Any guesses?

The artefact in question is an unborn titan. Titans use strife and anguish to create powerful emotions to feed their unborn in the core of a world. The world cracks open when the unborn is mature enough to join the heavens.

What we have here is Anonymous digging up a titan who is on the verge of maturity. However, when the titan is removed, the world will lose its magic as the titan fetus is the source.

At least, that's my guess.

Chapter 8

It's been 3 days since the first day of work from Dinky
She've learn how to fix a lot of things
But just wood things
Tools where hande to her and her hability
Anon insisted in her taking "Twilight time"
She accepts and is tutored by both, Anon and Twilight
Once in a while, Anon check on them
Lovely dovebly and sweet as hunny
The cmc's and Dinky are disgusted
Spike is just watching with good faith
When they are over, she comes to Anon to teach her about technology, tools and what she needs to know to help her mother.
Right now, they are on the way to take an order that Anon asked to Rarity
When they arrive, Rarara jumps to hug Anon
She is called from Manehattan to a new fashion serie
Ask Anon if he wants to come
He has dought in his head
Ask Rarara to give him till tomorrow
She accepts and gives him his order
All in all, Anon asked for hats, in this case
Construction helmets
They look cool, filly is amazed, they even come with a light
There is one to Anon, and for the surprise of the pony child, there is one for her too.
All in that yellow that you love.
They take the road back to Ponyville to keep working with now, flaming new helmets
Ponies look at him and her walking with a backpack filled with tools and a saddlebag filled with little tools, some paper and ink.

Unlike cpus a gpu is not designed to be physically removed from it's place. So don't think of it as just removing a cpu from it's socket. Think of it as tearing out the socket from the motherboard and trying to fix that.

Elan repletion.
http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/monsters/elan.htm

What if pony magic is just psionics?
We don't see ritual circles, gestures, or archaic words spoken during spell use. Just lots of concentration. The unicorn's magic glow could just be the psionic ectoplasm that forms when using mind powers.
>>
>>27139625
Then how come there are rules and restriction to one's power of the mind?
Dark magic and complete deprivation of someone's "arcane" capabilities?

Gestures? We've seen plenty. Simply pointing horn at the target of the spell, to begin with.

What would Discord be then? A psionic construct of sorts?

And surely, rituals, "magic words" and other props can be just as well dismissed as serving to help "focus" on the performed task and being a quick reference on how exactly to perform the said task.

Finally, a number of creatures have been seen to posses magical ability in some form. Are they all psionically capable?

>Then how come there are rules and restriction to one's power of the mind?
Besides game balance and plot device? We see ponies only have a couple tricks related to their personality. If we're talking D&D 3.5 then you can use the NPC class Augur for unicorns, meaning most will only have a couple powers known. Rarity and Twilight have more 'arcane' might, but that could simply be because they're player classes.

>Dark magic and complete deprivation of someone's "arcane" capabilities?
This would be more roleplaying than mechanics, as there's no difference between good and evil psionics, just how you apply powers to potential victims. Since the show has dark magic have its own look, you could houserule certain psionic powers have different psionic manifestations when used.

>Gestures? We've seen plenty. Simply pointing horn at the target of the spell, to begin with.
That is true, but in D&D arcane gestures are more than just pointing; usually taking the form of full-body movement, precise hand waving, and/or subtle dancing. This is why armor restricts somatic spells and can cause spell failure.

>What would Discord be then? A psionic construct of sorts?
There's a couple routes one could go with him. Psionic construct is definitely possible (golems, psionic warforged for example), but the other possibility is he's a psionic elemental or outsider. Either way, in Discord's case I would say just don't make a stat block as he's something that isn't meant to be fought normally.

>Finally, a number of creatures have been seen to posses magical ability in some form. Are they all psionically capable?
I don't see why not. A fantasy world without arcane magic could make vast use of psionics. Creatures that originally had spell-like abilities are now psi-like abilities.

As icing on the cake, in D&D psionics make use of crystals and gems to augment their psychic abilities. Ponies have a love of gems and jewels, and every artifact we've seen has some form of gem.

Ultimately, though, this wouldn't really change anything except the flavor and what sort of 'arcane' services the average adventurer can expect to have access to:
Rather than divine healing granted by the gods, you have unicorn psions knitting broken bodies through their will.
Rather than traditional magic items like wooden wands and staves and metal rings, you have jewels-studded crowns, psionically-charged gems, and powerful crystal creations.
Rather than relying on others, you have psionic creatures that augment their natural abilities with subtle psionics.
Rather than the arcane being a gift of diluted dragon bloodlines, you now have creatures showing supernatural abilities through sheer force of will.
If you take it a step further and make all creatures naturally psionic in some way, then your ponies can form metaconcerts where they bolster and pool each other's powers to create effects greater than an individual alone (see picture).

A world where the power of the mind results in the 'arcane' would allow quite a dichotomy between 'arcane' and technology as they require two completely different outlooks. One requiring rigorous mental exercise to develop and the other requiring precision production and calculation to develop.
>>
>>27139997
>This is why armor restricts somatic spells and can cause spell failure.
Finally, found the explanation behind this mechanic in RPGs.
The more you know.
>>
>>27140057
Well then, I'd like to point out the whole friendship thing that seem to empower certain princess, as it makes perfect sense within the theory.

This would also explain the changes in body of some other princess during her practice of dark magic. I believe that, at least ponies, may evoke their psychic potential through emotions, which leads me to conclusion that "dark" magic is but a way to harness the negative emotions, nearly mirroring the dark side of Force in Star Wars. And, as mind is capable of altering the body, state of the mind may influence this alteration, which is how creatures achieve their "nightmare" or evil form.

Returning the discussion on the pony tracks, such relationship between psionics and certain materials leaves space for possible improvement and empowerment through the application of technology.

If you read through the link you'll find a lot of similarities. DS has the virus that makes the infested, warframes, and specifically Excalibur. Or don't read through it, that's what I suggest. It's not a very good story.

Too late. I've played the game already.
And relation between ol' Hayden and the 10o is simple - there isn't any. Warframes are just golems of flesh, metal and technocytes.
DE's so creatively bankrupt that they have to reuse names from their previous "creation".
Still, I would like if they added more utility to Glaive, which they most certainly won't.
