As far as reasons go, I'd say Pinkie had the best one.
Everyone else is using the Grand Galloping Gala as means to get an easy pass doing things what they like, abusing their friendship with Twilight.
But let's put that aside, the next best reason would be Fluttershy's, as she might not be able to meet a fair number of those animals anywhere else in Equestria.
Rainbow, Rarity, Twilight and Applejack were not interested in the Gala itself, as well as the Gala had nothing exclusive to offer for them, just an easy opportunity .

Pinkies reason was 10 times better then rainbows but rainbows was at least acceptable the others had shit reasons.
If you really put yourselves in their shoes, then it isn't that clear; Applejack wants things to be going better with her farm and her family's life, Rarity wants to find love, Fluttershy wants to see something she's passionate about, Rainbow Dash wants to go because she's fantasized about meeting the Wonderbolts ever since she was a child, and Pinkie Pie just wants to have a good time. I would also like to note that in the first season, all the Mane 6 had far less exposure than later on, and gained fame as they helped Equestria more.
