The midseason finale is actually kind of an interesting element to the "leak".
We haven't yet had confirmation of season 7 even though we had seen a confirmation of season 6 by this time last year.
I could definitely see Hasbro wanting to only air one half this year, one half next year.

In any case, yes, those are shit decisions that, in a perfect world, wouldn't have existed, but people seem to forget that selling the toys is more important than the quality of the show when it comes to Hasbro, the writers are there and they will try to insert that in a way that it doesn't end shitty (or at least they should, they kinda of got that right a few times back in the day), remember that it took them decades to try something different, and since FiM is basically the new 52 of the franchise we can at least expect something different from the previous gens in the future
Strength of IPs anon, highschool slice of life about teenagers isn't a very appealing concept on its own, which is why companies add some flavor to make it more interesting (they are monsters, they are associated with fairy tales, etc) MLP already has a strong name so this would help with bringing some fans from the show to the spin off to increase sales

Unlikely. There's been some real talent drain at DHX. Season 6 hasn't just been disappointing in terms of characterization or some specific thing, it's suffering all around.
Directing is whacked out, writing is composed of 90% modular scenes which could be deleted without hurting the flow of the episode. They're starting to fall apart in terms of technical skill, not just on the balancing act of making a kids show that adults enjoy.
Probably, there's too much corporate interference and not enough ability to really do anything at all with the show. Some idiot likely stepped in to interfere with a successful product so he could put his name on it and impress the higher ups or the stock holders, and consequently nobody with any creativity or talent wants to be involved anymore.

I really hate how MLP turned into this reformation central and all the big bad's of the past are little ashamed ass plugs now.
Starlight used to be confident and powerful now she is this awkward person who is ashamed of her past.
The same is true for every a lot of vilains look: SS from EqG is the same thing now.
I faun it boring personally, "Starlight is awkward next to Sunburt who is awkward" not really great material the baby was more interesting.

His whole interactions with Starlight and Sunburst were great and made him much more likable. If there are ponies in his dragon episode, then hopefully it's sunburst and starlight because they dont write him off as baby dragon.

Nah it's true, in the premiere Sunburst is the only pony that actually does anything whatsoever, and in last week's episode the entire story can be summed up as "Pinkie trades her cannon for a present for Maud. Maud doesn't like that and trades it back. Also Rarity gets a new plot of land for a boutique." It's not even the more excusable "everything else is just flavor", the entire rest of the episode is nothing but talking about stuff that will happen in ways that add absolutely nothing to the episode when it does happen.

well..... I mean, I want to accept that the weather there is really crazy like the everfree forest, but then I have the Journal of the Two Sisters, which details the discovery of the Crystal Heart, which was guarded by a dragon that Celestia made beat the fuck out. They built the Empire around the heart, though maybe I need to re-read it. Perhaps it held back a future incursion of frozen north, but who knows. It still seems like a contrived issue.
Not to say it wasn't handled well. It was handled great. Loved the execution. I just criticize the thing itself.
