For example...
Trixie would be a master of illusory based spells. Tricks and illusions.
Starlight would be a spell weaver. Able to learn, craft, and cast spells as needed. (Only basing this on her ability to complete Starswirl's time spell.)
Twilight would be a jack of a trades. Able to quickly learn and use any spell needed, but not excelling at any one type.
Sunburst would be like a walking arcane library. Able to store and recall spells and fabrications when needed, but not fully able to cast said spells.
Those are just some of the ones off the top of my head. Silly little idea, but just a theory.

Seeing how the ponies have cutie marks describing their talents, it shouldn't be hard to see that between the magic gifted, there are different classes of ponies. Even outside unicorns, all pegasi are able to move clouds but only some of them work doing it. And each of them will be specialized on different weather, clouds, rain, wind, etc.
