Maybe. I don't know. I have only watched the first two episodes now and I grew a strong like for them because Starlight Glimmer was dealing mostly accurately with the same fears I have. Having an old childhood friend leave you for something else and then become something great or not while you become so bitter than you turn your whole worldview around and do stuff that makes people think you are completely fucked up if they ever found out is spot-on to what I have. Even her expressions when confronted with that stuff were great. How could I not love those episodes?

The thing is, MLP's core is slice of life which isn't enough to carry a a full length movie. Sure the show has dabbled with giant supervillan tries to take over the world stories but they are more asides and fanservice.
