Problem is the gag about Maud treating Boulder like he's alive. The joke is supposed to be that the other characters can't tell if she's being serious or not, but in this episode (and the joke in RR too) completely miss that point all together.

Towards the end of the episode after Maud was given her gift we were shown that she would absolutely give up things for her sister just for the sake of her happiness, not to mention she has various of character traits where in every episode where she is in you can notice small changes in her face

The new writers overplayed her flat affect in this ep. She's ordinarily a character of fewer words who either speaks with her actions or who Pinkie speaks for. A few scenes with her were good in this ep, but her talking to the extent she did in many places felt weird.
