So any Chicago Anons going this weekend?

I'm interested to see how it will compare to the Ponyville Ciderfest that was in Milwaukee.

Hopefully less photo drama...
>>

Yeah. No.

I will be there with a friend from uni

I'll be wearing a scarf and twilight jersey #10 if you want to say hi or grab a drink

Sounds cool, maybe I'll see ya around.

I'll be wearing a black tank top and baseball hat. I shouldn't be hard to miss so stop by and say hi!
>>
I'm here too. Apparently I'm a "community guest" even though im not. They fucked up and gave me the wrong one. Oh well.

Anyone know if there's any parties going on this weekend at the con? Tomorrow is my birthday and I wouldn't mind getting hammered with yall.

Let's see here...
>Con set in Schaumberg, IL... not Chicago..
>Headed up by Draft
>Only show guests worth mentioning are Libman and Larson
>Community guests are ACRaceguy, Saberman, and that Kim Possible chick... no thanks
>Run by the same people who did that Ciderfest Con
>Headed up by Draft
>Musicians are a bunch of Who's? Besides Foozogz
>Con literally updates their site days before con.
>Headed up by Draft

Yea no thanks, and I live just 30 minutes from Schaumberg. I went to Ciderfest and that con was a bunch of bologna. The only entertaining things were some of the bro-tier artists like Toxic Mario, RainbowDashie, and Traveling Pony Museum. The only horsefuckers there was that rarifag who dressed up as anon, the drunkanon who spent the entire time at the bar, and WeimTime who seemed bored the entire time. The musicians were stuck up. AC whatever and Saberspark were paraded around like kings while ImaToonLink, who spent over $2000 to come, didn't as much receive a panel or some kind of special guest access. Peter New was acting weird around some random girl at the bar. There was some creep going around giving random ladies a rose and saying "Would you kindly accept this flower from a humble admirer?" And the panels were all worth missing except for the VA panel.

Ciderfest sucked and this one looks even worse. I doubt they will get a good turnout and I bet this will be the first and last time they do this con.
>>

>>
>>26950373
Jeremiah French? Who?

>>
>>26940384
>>26950345
Weim here.

Yea Ciderfest blew for the most part. My self and a person who should not be named had to slip out of there unnoticed.

I admit rarifag was cool and so was that guy wearing the derpy jersey. The Zam was there as well.

I had fun making that Anon dancing video.

But I agree that it was a shame that ToonLink was undertreated at that con. The guys running these particular cons aren't always the brightest at who they decide to treat better than others. Toon told me he told them months ahead of time he was coming and they still didn't give him any lee-way. Not only that but the guy was starving when he got there. And ffs give the guy a panel with the other YouTubers if he made the trouble to come all the way out. Toon ain't definitely coming back to that one.

I used to be non-opinionated about Draft, but after Ciderfest I told myself I am not going to another DraftCon again.

I miss you guys though

He is just a meme senpai :^)

>>26951053

More like horse infamous. He has been shut out of several cons for his actions.
>>
I thought Ciderfest was kinda fun. But I spent half the time in the gaming area playing Ponyfinder and Fiasco. The voice actor and Ponyville after dark panels were pretty good. The speed dating was godawful though probably not a big surprise there.... I was pretty disappointed ToonLink didn't get a panel, that sucked.

Regarding this con, at least I won't have to drive 100 mile in the worst blizzard of the year to get there since its right in my backyard, so I figure why not.
>>
>>26951098
Which guy were you? Were you with Weim's group?

are you picture anon?
>>
>>26950345
>and that Kim Possible chick...
Can someone explain to me what the appeal is about her? The only video I saw from her was that Meet DeLancie video which was cringey as hell.

Didn't she make a big deal about herself while asking VAs a question at BronyCon?
>>
>>26951098
I was the Ponyville After Dark panelist and I'm doing another one here. I am the muscular dude wearing the CMC tanktop if anyone wants to meet up or get shitfaced.

>Were you with Weim's group?

No, I just went there alone for Saturday only. Chit-chatted with a few folks, had a few ciders, didn't meet any other anons (that I was aware at least, it didn't come up in any conversations).

If that's true then I might pack my bags and go. But I'm not seeing a lot of updates from the guys that are actually there.
>>
>>26951357
I admit you are right about that, considering Preston's story here:
>There was some creep going around giving random ladies a rose and saying "Would you kindly accept this flower from a humble admirer?"
It's both extremely fun and sad
>>
>>26951360
Considering Draft's and his goon's hate for 4chan, they probably are having security hunt them down
>>
>>26951360
The layout of the con is a lot different than the Hyatt. Everything is a little more spread out, so it seems like there are less people than there actually are. I'm actually surprised there are this many people here for a Friday of a new con.
>>
Anyone else get stuck in registration hell for 2 hours this morning? Overall this con is a lot of nothing. Currently chilling with my group at the mall getting food.

Yea but it's tradition for most cons for nor/mlp/eople to post updates for the rest that aren't there.

I'm not saying they have to or anything, I just assumed that since there wasn't a whole lotta posting about it that maybe the con is lacking.

The little cons are hit and miss. The bigger ones like BC and EFNW are quite good.
>>
>>26953423
Weim here. I didn't remember anyone's names man. I think you gave me your number but I lost it with the new phone. But you guys were the only plus side to that con in my book. Other than Tabby's autograph that is. This con looks ok but not worth traveling out to from your location.

I am probably doing a panel at BronyCon so if you meet me there, maybe you can hang with Crowne Prince, Dr. Wolf, VivaToonLink, FluffyMixer, and Minty Root since we are going to be together. Or at least we are all planning that.

Otherwise what Edumund here said is right >>26953433

It's a knowmer that these little cons are hit and miss every year. Draft chose quite an expensive hotel for this Con. In fact from what I have seen, it is too big for the crowd they are probably getting. So you may not be missing out on much. This may be this Con's only year.

>the ride is ending

New rides will come anon. We may have gotten things like FNAF and UT pop up but you don't see either of those having cons do you? Pony cons will be around for a while but the smaller cons are dying off. BronyCon hit a record last year though and Babs will hit a record this year.

those cons are doing well because Draft is bad at marketing and getting the right people to his cons
>>
>>26953997

Babs is a shit. It's run so poorly I can't see it continuing.
>>
>>26954009
>it's run poorly

While I wholeheartedly agree with you since the staff are literally sjw no-brainers, it is one of the largest cons.

>I can't see it continuing.
I'll give it at least 2 more years. They are pretty ambitious. They try to get staff and events like BC but from what I heard they are facing financial problems every year so far. They also are not good at marketing (implying any cons are) and heavily depend on SJW groups to spread the word. If it weren't for interconnections they would have a really tough time getting community guests to come as well.

BronyCon for sure. I am hopefully doing a panel there.

Clearly now I should have gone to WhinnyCity.

Maybe BabsCon if I can find a good reason to go (ie people to hang with). I gotta decide on that really soon though.

Maybe EFNW if I can find a good reason to go (ie panel or something)

And Maybe Ciderfest again in November. But honestly I have to wait and see on that one.

Cons are damn expensive. That's why it is usually imperative that I come up with a solid reason to dump money to get to them.

Raristation anon here, I'll be at BABS this year if you decide to go. I'll be around with a bunch of other horsefuckers doing who knows what. It'll be nice to meet you and chat a bit, about like battlestations, cup stuff or whatever.

I'll be in a different /mlp/ jersey each day and the scarf of course. Probably filming things most of the time.

BABScon may be the only con I do this year because like you said, they're expensive. I did four over last year and it left me broke.

>>
>>26970423
is ciderfest any good?

>>26970431
I think so, it has a good venue, and is focused on drinking. They tend to have two or three good guests, and typically one 'cool' guest who likes to hang out with fans (Peter or Larson) though I'm probably biased since it's my local con.
>>
>>26970423
Same guy runs who runs Whinny City, MLP-MSP, and Ciderfest also runs at least 1 anime convention and also operates Cutie Corral, that one vendor that's everywhere and has overpriced chibi plush that I'm pretty sure are made in China at this point.
>>
I'm conflicted. Many anons want to see me at Babscon though I really have no way of getting there and still no update on the panels.

I'm going to Babs and bringing my Tracy collection. If you want a irl Tracers YOU HAVE TO MAKE A CHOICE

although I am going to bronycon too
>>
>>26971535
Haven't been to bronycon yet but plan on it next year. I have only been to babs and a few smaller cons so I can't really compare them.
My experience at babscon was mostly pleasant. The venue is nice, vendor hall was good, parties were cool and it had the most entertaining panels out of all the other cons I attended.
Getting food is kind of a pain though. They have a pretty pricey sports bar in the hotel and a subpar, pricey dennys-like restaraunt across the street. If you want a better choice in food, you'll have to go several blocks down to get to a little shopping area.
It takes about 25 minutes walking if my memory is correct. Not all that fun, but way better than starving all weekend like I did at the first babscon.
To me, what truly makes a con memorable is the experiences that you have with others while you're there. Not always something you can plan or predict ahead of time.

>Same weekend they make an episode about NYC

When will we see a Whinny City episode? I think it'd be interesting to see ponies dye the river green on St. Pony's day, or zebras doing juke dancing.

BABScon is good for fans of the fandom; People who don't really like the show but like attention and bandwagoning. Their organization is poor, their financials are disastrous, and the best part of their con was Klingons.

Bronycon is a proper convention. So make your call.

Chicago; 3rd most populous city in the USA; behind only LA, which has Hollywood, and NYC, which has Broadway. So perhaps it's that the other major US cities are already major hubs for the more usual expressions of fandom, making them save cons for when they have a good reason for them, whereas fandoms in Chicago have more incentive to go for them with or without a good reason?

Just a guess, though.

I'm confused. At Ciderfest he was walking around acting like staff and I even heard some staff thanking him for a gift he gave them in exchange for their work. So you are saying he is staff of CF but not WC?
>>
>>26974549

He was head of programming at Ciderfest, I don't know if he has any involvement at WC.
>>
The con was fairly underwhelming. A big reason why being that a lot of the staff was incompetent except for a small group of them that were working their asses off. Registration was late, the concert was delayed and it never felt like a good crowd the various times I stopped in there. There were technical issues In a few panels that fucked over a few of them. And there just weren't a lot of attendees. The parties were good though. Nothing insane but still fun. I'm not sure they'll be doing this again next year, but I'd probably pass if they did. It's hard to believe most of these people running it were from Ciderfest. It felt like they regressed in terms of running a show.
>>
>>26974572
He claimed he was staff of WC as of a few months ago
>>
>>26974686

Then I would not be surprised if he is.
>>
>>26970536

Ciderfest is a good concept. ie drinking atmosphere. But I noticed they lack in the department of running things well. Specifically their choice of community guests and stuff. For example, I was with Weim at CF when VivaToonLinkReverie walked in. I didn't talk to him other than a "Hi I like your stuff." But Weim did and told us later in the hotel room that Toon came all the way from Australia in hopes to get a panel. I think I recall him getting his request for one rejected. But he went anyway to have fun and thought he could tag onto another panel if he talked to someone. He spent like $2k to get there and he got a poor welcoming. I mean at least give the guy a free entrance pass or something. And then he went and asked ACRaceBest and Saber if he could join their panel and they casually told him no. Despite the fact that it was a YouTuber's panel. I was standing at a distance listening in and the room was kinda empty. I was getting the vibe that those guys had a big ego. It's funny because Toon is more talented then they are. The other thing was their poor choice of featured musicians. Seriously, the PonyShake Ups were probably the worst thing I have ever heard in concert. I had to leaved the room. I think they were featured again at WhinnyCity.

Ciderfest has big potential and milwaukee ain't bad, but it could have been better if they had better panels with a variety of community guests and not just two randumb React Bronies. Don't get me wrong though, CF has some good qualities to it, but if a well known and respected community guest pays his own way to come, at least give him a panel or access to hang with the VIPs.
>>
>>26973171
What community guest are you?
>>
>>26974654
from a social incompetent who has never been to a con, how do you even find parties? is it just a matter of knowing the right people beforehand?

>>
>>26972291
This. I hate that they did this. As a Illinois citizen it is common knowledge not to say something is from or in Chicago unless it is literally in the city. Otherwise you say Schaumberg or Chicagoland.
>>
>>26974711
Im surprised /mlp/ haven't caught on to saber and AC, they are egotistical bastards, just like the rest of the brony fandom
>>
>>26974747
Toon is a high end programmer in a country that needs them lol. He makes decent.

Why he goes? The fuck if I know. He is a hilarious guy but a bit odd. I can only imagine he goes because the fandom is one of his one hobbies.
>>
>>26974820

I'll answer the rhetorical; He goes to a small con because he's a nobody and no one would give a shit about him at a real convention. It's easy to be a big fish in a small tank.
>>
>>26974805
>they are egotistical bastards
I fucking knew it. And CF and WC only make it worse by parading them around like kings and giving them access to anything under the sun.

>in b4 that's what cons do

Yea I get it that's fine. But considering the gems this fandom offers, why not look beyond just getting 2 Brony React Youtubers?

I feel like the reason animation and music are dying in the fandom is because cons stopped giving a shit about them. Cons are a great way to spur on talent, but these two have barely anything worth mentioning when it comes to skill other than being funny in front of a camera on home video. All cons do for people like them is spur on their ego.

I hear animators and musicians getting their panels canceled to make room for asshats like these. It's a shame, really.
>>
>>26974830
>No one gives a shit about him at a REAL convention...

He had like two panels at BronyCon last year and one at EFNW and is planning to return to BC again this year. He said he gets invited to cons sometimes but he usually can't go because it really does cost an arm and a leg for him to go to any of these. He lives in Aussie man.

Not to mention I think he has more subs than SS and ARB. His videos are funny,
>>
>>26974744
Knowing people is the easiest way and most of the ones we were at, we knew at least one person who introduced the rest of us to others we didn't know.

But one of them was a party with the people who were across the hall from us who we didn't know and that happened because my friend started talking to them out in the hallway when they were out there. Sometimes it's that easy.
>>
>>26974711
The only thing that makes this story strange is that Viva is on Bronies React all the time. I find it hard to believe that he couldn't get in on the YouTube panel given they are at least acquaintances.

I will confirm though after a few interactions, that ACRacebest has an air of thinking he's better than everyone else. He's very cliquish and goes out of his way to only hang out with a designated "cool kids club." I get that feeling less from Saberspark because I saw him hanging out with non famous people at a few points. But this was only when AC wasn't around. I get the feeling that saber goes along with whatever AC wants to do because they're best friends.
>>
>>26974898
>I feel like the reason animation and music are dying in the fandom is because cons stopped giving a shit about them.

Here's the thing about pony cons, they cost serious cash to put on due to fandom expectation from BC being trumped as the shit. AC & SS help drive badge sales by virtue of being on the schedule. Unfortunately, this means smaller players get pushed out in favor of the established.
>>
>>26973002
Aren't those LA gangs?
>>
>>26975217
>AC & SS help drive badge sales by virtue of being on the schedule.
True but that doesn't mean other guests wouldn't. Just look at the guest list at Babs. They have guests on their lists with like 5k subscribers on YouTube.

Crowne Prince and FluffyMixer said it themselves. Cons are way less personal than they used to be and unless you have connections or a positive history at cons as a guest, then good luck getting in as a community guest.

>>26975180
I swear on my mother's grave they casually said no. The reason was because they "didn't know he was coming and thought it was too late". That is full of crap because he did say he was coming and there is nothing stopping them from putting an extra chair up on stage. I see surprise guests at other cons do it a lot. One year Tara Strong showed up at Babs out of the blue. At Comic Con people do panel sit ins all the time.

My point is those guys are sketchy and so are many of the staff that run these cons.
>>
>>26971407
Point of clarification, mlpmsp is not run by ciderfest or the cutie corral guy. That is draftcon.
