Celestia and Luna were canonically born alicorns, refer to Big Jim's, Faust's and Merriwether's twitter acocunts, and the journal of the two sisters; Haber simply doesn't watch the show or any of the complementary material, I doubt eh even cares. No actually, the specific twitter posts are direct word of god, meaning the are THE canon, not just one interpretation, and the line in the episode was apparently ambiguous enough for Jim to do damage control for Haber, "do you remember being born" It's what Jim said.
The comics and books are extended canon; you can ignore them if you want but when questioning any event handled in them they are the default answer. The books on the other hand are actual canon, not just supplemental; the journal itself even appears and it's quoted in the show itself.

In the journal of the two sisters it is stated that alicorns age very slowly, and it is confirmed in the show because they are very old
Yet Cadance aged normally, since she was smaller when she foalsitted Twilight
This implies that there are two types of alicorns, and since we know Cadance was made one, the only explanation of why Luna and Celestia are different is because they were born like that.
