What you see here began as a series of comedy-centric stories with the concept of an alicorn-ascended Princess Applejack trying to change a mismanaged Equestria for the better by humorously interacting with the other, quite lazy, princesses.
Not to mention a whole bunch of Changelings with nothing better to do but cause mischief.
The whole thing was set in motion by this gem:

That's what I was concerned with hence why I was linking to the wiki and spreadsheet instead.
Perhaps we should start hammering out a procedure if this were to ever happen again. I'd call it operation Apple Bunker. What I personally did was make a thread on 4+4chan, updated the wiki and spreadsheet and regrouped people as best I could. When word got out that there's also a thread on ponychan, I made posted links on both chans, so that all the threads were linked together in some way and people can be on the same page.

The quite old changeling 'child' had been silent through it all. Passive, receptive listening with a look of blank understanding on her face. She had not even spoken up a once, even though it was painfully obvious the elder changeling had been expecting it and preparing for it at multiple parts in the story, her tale of the resurrection of Sunset Shimmer, and the fallout it brought. Though Sunset noticed she had left out quite a lot of the actual resurrecting process, in particular a certain sharing of the minds, she was nothing if not detailed about the encounter within Canterlot square. Thirteen had listened, without so much as a groan of discomfort.
In the wake of her finishing, there was silence, and emptiness. A void that the Queen had previously filled, yet no other had decided to take up the mantle of standing in for once it had reached it's end. All eyes fell to the unluckiest changeling, and maybe her daughter on occasion too. In times like these, there was no question who was the worst off of the pair.
If there had been, it was unquestionably answered, when Thirteen slammed a hoof into her face.
"Ugggghhhh."

Her approach was stalled by a hoof. Not a powerful one, but one that nonetheless could bring the Titan to a stop with weak taps on the nose.

Both hooves uselessly flailed against unbreakable chitin, as the smaller one let it all out.

Only one of them held her hooves to her mouth, and tried to reconcile all she had seen and known with what was playing out in front of her. The two realities were at war, and the battle was as shocking to her as the worst she had seen.
The other one just rolled her eyes dramatically and pumped her hoof up and down in a very mocking gesture.

I feel chitin on my fur, I smell your breath-nice choice with the Mexicolt by the way- and I can actually feel the heat radiating off you. That? I didn't have that before your mom.'
"She just wants something-"
'Good. You know what? Good. She deserves something. She deserves fucking anything for that. She wants me to help her build her own castle? Get me bricks. She wants me to massage her for the rest of her life? Get the oils. She wants to grow new parts, hold me down and work out some frustration on my backside? For the first time in years, who knows how many, when the changeling looked back to her mother, she looked up to her with something that had not been with her in quite some time.
Just a little bit of wonder.

Something passed by in Chitania's eyes as well. Something that, too, had not been there for quite some time.
Just a little, almost imperceptible bit, of glee.

So wrapped up in their own worlds, their own wants and desires, none of them noticed the strange look crease the face of the only earth pony in the room.
The one who looked to Sunset Shimmer, just as she had this entire time, and let the nervousness show for all to see.
Something was very, very wrong.
And all too likely... it had something to do with that case she had seen the other pony hide.

Its almost poetic... Applejack hated Chrysalis, her past rival for what she stood for, a walking breathing creature of lies. And now her current and most hated foe is Chitania, a changeling who is as brutally honest as she is in battle. It's... amazing to see how things have become.

Chrysalis was her thematic opposite for a long time. Abused and coveted her power, relied on lies and mind control and always hiding yourself away while pretending to be someone else, always scheming something with very little thought of her kin as actual family. She was a stark contrast to AJ in so many ways, that's why they clashed all the time.
Pennydrop is a dark mirror to her, what she would be like if she was dishonest, cared about industry and progress above all else, and only looked out for herself.
Chitty's a little different. Chitania is more a dark version of AJ than a dark mirror or contrast. She's honest, but brutally and uncaringly so. She dearly loves her family and looks out for those she calls friend, but only her family and friends, nobody else. She always keeps her word, but that word is built around getting the most out of it for herself. She'll never lie to you about a deal, but that doesn't mean the deal isn't catered towards herself. She's all about hard work and never taking the easy route, but it sure isn't for making the world better, it's all about getting more power.
All of AJ's opponents are interesting case studies in an of themselves.

That's the thing about PD, you can't fight her directly. Not and stop her, at least. Sure, you might physically beat her that one time, but she'd use it against you in public opinion it litigation. She would use whatever attack you tried as fuel. You can't beat her the normal way.

The only way that works is if she's up against an opponent that she can't turn the rest of the world against. It would have to be somebody who's public opinion can't go any lower comma nor can she use the Army available to actually defeat them. She would have to be in a situation where her attacking benefits her both politically and in the public eye, plus she gets what she wants, plus whoever she is attacking dead.
This doesn't work for any of the main Royals, as she is trying to not get involved in a fight with them directly, and a civil war would benefit her more. The only time she would ever do something like that is if she was up against, say a known Criminal who has too much power to directly stop with whatever shmuck she has available.

Think you're both overthinking and underthinking this at the same time. Rarity is ranting, but Dash is constantly undercutting her and pointing out how she's acting, so the story doesn't imply you should cheer for her. At the same time, nobody claimed that Chitty was a saint, and the base of the joke is that Rarity just expects this out of her, she's mad only at Sunset, but in trying to clarify(she expects it out of the CHANGELING, not the pony), she came off sounding like she was focusing on Chitty's race, when in reality she's just thinking about Sunset and how angry she is at her. Even Dash points out getting mad at Chitty is weird, even if she's still thinking about hitting her because Element of Loyalty and AJ is her buddy.
She's not taking the high ground, she's mad, and Dash is poking fun at her when she's not getting confused for humor.

Actually, it was where she stuck them because their dungeon didn't have room, then she decided to try and merge them with society, but in order to do that she had to make it so they were free to go and actually try(and comically fail) to get jobs, so she just forgave all their previous crimes, since otherwise they would just be locked up in the dungeon they didn't have room to hold them in.
They were free to leave the ballroom whenever they wanted, in fact AJ insisted on it a bunch of times(Thread 2, she tells Chrysalis to just go build a kingdom in Everfree), but they didn't because they were worried what would happen if other kingdoms knew where they were, and how they would get food.
Kingdom invasion and all that has been a non-issue since thread 2.

I just looked up the story in question, it's in thread 2 but I can't link it, and it's not that she escaped, it's that they just had her kill a whole bunch of monsters and then 'he' ran away, so they thought they unleashed a psycho murderer on the world.
That same thread, AJ said Canterlot "Opened it's doors" to changelings. They weren't prisoners, they just wouldn't leave.

The barbs of pain left behind after every rapid connection of skin to chitin was matched only in precision, and brilliance, as the barbs that left their tongue. Words that held the power of even the mightiest of blows, and cut deeper than any blade ever could.
Truly, in mind, and in body, they were a match of forces the world, nay, the universe itself had never seen.

They could not understand the precision of every fur covered hoof against chitin, nor the ingenuity present in every wobbly flail of a chitinous limb against pony.

It's still mostly the same for like, 90 percent of stories.
Character A is the crazy one, character B is the sane one, they banter back and forth and then resolution. We mix it up with character C being the wildcard to swing back and forth sometimes, or we do a group thing where everyone bounces off each other in the conversation or gangs up on the single choice of character for one, but group stuff isn't the norm.
We work a lot more with slapstick and situational humor than we used to, probably due to our change from having reaction expand more than single word onomatopoeia's, but conversational still is king.

Literally the only time comedy isn't the focus is in the very rare 'serious' moments that injecting it into would otherwise rob of their impact and character, putting humor in every scene in the Apple Crazy arc would ruin it, for instance. Other than that? It's still the driving force and front and center, making up the vaaaaast majority of all stories, by far. And it's not like it's forgotten in all places, even something like the Sunset confrontation had spots of humor like with Sunset grabbing onto Chitty's leg, or when she went all Looney Tunes with the bed. Our humor, I think, has developed, both in setup and execution, but for the better. But the one thing that stuck around since day 1, which is building off other jokes and continuing them, is still present. So, on the whole, this is still a comedy thread, we just have moments where shit gets real.
