What equipment do you have in your most recent save file?
In DS1, I was rocking EK set with a +10 Zweihander and occasionally switching to my Astora straight sword+4 when the enemy as unarmored. In my off hand I had the Grass Crest Shield and a basic chime for the occasional heal. My rings were Havel's ringgotta get dat fast roll[/spoiler] and ring of favor and protectioni killed the fuck out of Lauterec when I met him, but I've only just left Anal Rodeo after getting the shit kicked out of my by Dunkstien and Slamough.
In DS2, I've got the full Havel's set, Sun Sword+10, Idol's Chimei actually used them this time around as it was a faith based knight build, the target shield, Third Dragon's Ring, Chloranthy-Senpai, Royal Soldier's Ring+1again, fastrolland Ring of Blades+1.

hmmm While I agree this is good for a early game style I say later on grab yourself the Faraam legs which is literally just cloth and boots as far as i am aware if they are not then I'd recommend the archdrake boots later on, little bit more defence but blue trousers plus dark boots you've basically got Kenshiro leggings there, also tattered machettes are good but I don't think anyone will notice in a pvp situation if you slip on an engraved gauntlet...
