I know what you mean, but I'd like to point out that pony faces would look as unique to them as human faces do to us.
Animals can tell each other apart, even if they all look the same to us. We developed the ability to identify humans by their face, because it's important for a social animal like us to do that. We never developed the ability to identify animals because knowing which antelope we we're having for dinner wasn't useful.
The ponies would probably have just as much trouble telling us apart as we would telling them apart; more so since we don't have a unique identifier plastered on our body.
