Emerald and Ruby follow the pirate into the store room below the cannon room. The pirate pulls out what appears to be a small packet taped to a cannon ball.
"See these? These are the common cannonballs you'll haul these up to the guys above. They may ask for different kinds of cannonballs, and they are all a bit self explanatory." the pirate says.
He then pulls out a pair of cannonballs attached to a chain. He also pulls out what appears to be a bunch of small cannonballs packed together, and some ammo that is covered in a sack.
"These are chain shot, grapeshot, and carcass shot respectively. Do not mix them up, alright?" The pirate says, pointing to each in turn, "Think you can handle that?"
Ruby salutes, but Emerald is unsure.

The young colt thinks he might wander off to go and find Joyride however, he's not very interested in this work, but that would mean leaving Ruby to her own devices. Emerald wants to find Joyride, but maybe he should stick around? He isn't sure.

Emerald eyes Ruby to see if she is okay to leave alone. Emerald wonders if he should stay, but the pony grabs some of the regular cannonballs and tells Ruby to do the same, and they both exit the room carrying the live ammunition.
Emerald takes this opportunity to sneak away and up to the top deck. There he finds many of the crew armed to the teeth and standing near rails. Emerald can see the galleon they are going to attack slightly off in the distance but approaching fast.
Emerald sees a pony he doesn't recognize standing next to the Captain. This one is wearing a mantle that covers most of her chest, neck, and lower face. On her head she wears a wide brimmed hat that hides her features as well, except for the horn sticking out of the top of it.
It isn't until Emerald spots the cutie mark that he realizes it is Joyride.
Seemingly feeling his gaze, the unicorn turns and stares at the colt.

Emerald dons Gile's bandanna, not around his neck where Joyride's mantle is, but around his head to keep the hair out of his eyes. He sees the look that Joyride is giving him, and quickly darts downstairs.
After a few seconds pass he peaks back up and sees everyone looking at the ship coming up to them.
"Raise the flag!" The captain shouts, and looking up Emerald sees the a black flag with a skull being hoisted.
At the same time this is happening all the pirates and Joyride begin yelling and firing pistols or spells into the air, creating a loud, disconcerting noise.
The raid is probably going to start soon, if it happens at all. Perhaps the ponies on the ship will give up?
Emerald isn't sure if he should leave now, or perhaps stick around to see what happens.

The noise the pirates make only continues, the few unicorns in the group other than Joyride begin firing bright, loud firework-like spells into the air. Joyride seems to abstain from this. Now that she isn't looking at Emerald it looks like she is concentrating rather hard on the ship.
"There you are. Come on, I thought you were going to help!" Ruby says from below Emerald, poking her head up to see the commotion, "Look, they are going to start soon! We should get ready!"

Emerald agrees to go down and help with the cannons. The pair are instructed to stand near a cannon and run downstairs and grab whatever cannonball the firing team needs.
Said team that Emerald is standing near are all peering out of the gun port. They are all too big and beefy for Emerald to see around, so he glances around the room and sees that many are doing the same, and that Ruby has managed to squeeze her way near one of the windows.
All of a sudden every single crew gets into position, and a stallion near Emerald lights what appears to him to resemble a sparkler. Emerald can smell it from here, and it smells a lot like burning metal.
A sudden hush falls over the room, and the only noise is from the people on deck.
All of a sudden there is a command to fire, and the stallion puts the stick in a hole on top of the cannon.
There is an impossibly loud, earth shattering boom that causes Emerald to reel and he cowers to the floor and covers his ears.
"Go, child! Some of the chain-shot!" The stallion barks at Emerald, who he can barely hear over the ringing in his ears.
Emerald darts up in a panic, happy for any reason to leave the room. He sees Ruby already coming back up with what appears to be chain-shot as well, and she grins as she passes.
Emerald runs down the stairs and finds one of the pair of cannonballs connected by a chain, and slowly hauls it back up to the cannon room. He meets a pirate halfway who takes it from him and says, "There you are. Give me that!"
He then takes the ball and runs the rest of the way to the cannon.
