Bring me up to speed, anon. What drama has occurred and what's to come from Hasbro?

Toy Fair was a more interesting event to follow.

as a /toy/fag, it definitely was.

Hell, it even had a legit S6 animatic. Too bad it couldn't be filmed and Seth doesn't release audio recorded from it.

>>26470143
All I know was that the venue absolutely sucked and Faust cost $30k to get for a convention of about 1500-2000 people. So it might not have been the best choice.
>>
It is finally warm in the venue.
Faggots got their heat fixed.

Saturday was cold.
Sunday was OK.
Monday is actually kinda warm.

1500-2000 people? I'm hearing reports of more like 600 attendees. Maybe if they are counting three day badges as 3 attendees I could see 1500

Good. We don't need so many anyways. That's coming from someone who did four pony cons in the past year alone. They were mostly alright, but having so many cons seems to hurt more than it does good. Oversaturation has been a problem for a while.

Absolutely zero. Lauren dropped some good nuggets in her two panels yesterday, but not much else. While she was incredibly difficult to hear at Summer Bronycon 2012, shit was fine to listen to at Ponycon '16. One of the few good things to come of this con.

The other was the @midnight Panel.

depends what the wording was

did they say that VIPs would get to attend a dinner with the show staff? if so they technically delivered. But if they said you would get to sit WITH the staff, then no they didn't hold up their end of the deal
>>
>>26470183

Asthetically the venue was great, but it probably wasn't the best idea to use an old as shit building with probably deeply out of date heating systems in Winter as a venue, then again I doubt they anticipated the cold wave.
>>
>>26475237
You make a valid point. What I mean to say is that no money embezzling occurred. This may have been a major disappointment, but it's nothing that'll be worthy a lawsuit.
>>
>>26472150

2000 or so Turnout is fine for your average mid-tier Con, but I guess it wasn't with how much further they went with guest this year than before. They made too much of a damn push.

>>26472231

I remember when the Con scene first exploded in 2012, literally like half of those cons didn't have a second year, people just had too many fucking options so few cons could get much turnout.
>>
>>26474989

PoNYCon wasn't really trying to be one of the big shot conventions with tons of guest until this year so it was less relevant.
>>
>>26472346

What the hell exactly happened between Tinker and the Ponycon heads anyway? I recall she was actually one of the founders wasn't she? I went to read some of those tweets and the amount of contempt that seems to be there for people who I presume used to be friends is really deep.

Is Tara there? Still waiting to hear about this happening.
https://desustorage.org/mlp/thread/26079026/#26079223
>>
>>26475501

There were some decent panels and events (personally I found the comic reading to be a standout with the ridiculous voices the VAs were doing) but not much new was learned.
>>
>>26475473
PT and Kar butted heads, and Kar bullied PT out of the con, and eventually the East Coast. The former now works with BABS, probably the best con for her, and for us lads from /mlp/.
>>
>>26475533

No Tara wasn't there, I really doubt a mid-level con like Ponycon could EVER afford both Lauren and Tara. Only the super big shots like EFNW and Bronycon can do that.
>>
>>26475549

What did they have differences on opinion on how to proceed with the con after the first one or was it over some stupid personal crap between the two of them?

I was a regular of the NY meetups back when she was the head of those, and back then those two seemed to get along quite well, but I kind of distanced myself from the fandom in 2013 so I was not around during the year all that went down.
>>
>>26475589
Not sure. If I recall the first time I heard of PT not being involved was the 2015 Ponycon.
>>
>>26475549

Don't know where you heard that from, but Tinker does not work for BABSCon.
>>
>>26475628
I said "with", not "for". Forgive me if I misspoke.
>>
I literally only saw like 2 Applejack cosplayers in the entire con, I saw lots of everyone else, kinda strikes me there just how much less popular she is compared to the rest.
>>
>>26475613

Yeah something happened in ether 2013 or 2014, the years where I was kind of distant from the fandom, before plunging back in in 2015, so I missed out on what happened. Whatever it was it must of been big drama cause Tinker was fucking railing about Kar "Systematically destroying my entire social life" on Twitter.
>>
From what I've picked up over time, Kar doesn't particularly like Bronies, hence why she tries to force Gen 1 stuff everywhere she can.

The hoops I had to jump through to get a panel last year were atrocious, all because of Kar

It was pretty meh. Honestly the panels were pretty boring, and we left way early to go screw around New York instead of staying. Crowne Prince's animated ponies thing was pretty cool. Also, shoutout to that guy with the Liberty plushie on the Amtrack train if you're reading this :^)
>>
>>26475689

Kar's always struck me as chill actually, but she's not the best organizer yeah.

Keith I can vouch better for, Iv hung out with him after some meetups, been to his apartment and he's always cool and fun.
>>
>>26475924

Shit I meant to add she's struck me as chill but I don't know her as well as I know Keith so I can't really vouch too heavily for her.
>>
Their needed to be more shirt vendors, sooo many plushie vendors with their crazy high prices but so few shirts and stuff.
>>
>>26472216
>>
>>26475689
Funny, I always thought it was Minty that hated bronies and only liked Gen 1 stuff. Kar struck me more of an excited person who likely wasn't the best to organize things, but she was fun to talk to.
>>
>>26475951
This desu senpai. Not to mention, the building was way too small.
>>
>>26475971

Iv actually never gotten that impression from Minty and I used to talk to her plenty since she was a moderator on a Synchtube channel I ran years ago. She was actually really happy to see me again when I came back to a New York meetup after years of not going to them anymore.

Minty is only staff for the regular meetups though, she doesn't work for Ponycon so she's not really relevant here.
>>
>>26475975

I actually really liked the building asthetically, but it wasn't a good choice for a Con in the Winter, old ass building with an old ass barely functional heating system and rooms that rely mostly on natural light, which kinda goes away early in the winter. Would of been a much better choice for like a Spring convention or something.
>>
>>26476025
Ah alright. I haven't been to a meetup in a long time either, so I imagine a lot has changed.
>>
>>26476035
Definitely this. You also have to combine that a building like that doesn't work on a sound level for microphoned talent.
>>
>>26476041

Yeah Ponycon is mostly Kar and Keith's thing.
>>
>>26476041

Yeah there was major drama in the leadership in 2013 and 2014 which is what ultimately resulted in PT being banned from her own group, which I don't know much about, since that was the period I stayed away cause I was disenchanted with the Fandom after the months of endless drama storms. Kar and PT had a massive falling out though and they like despise each other now, I know that. I asked Minty about it but she really didn't want to talk about it.
>>
Despite the fandom being in established and not fad mode anymore, I still expect some other Con to pop up in New York, just because hey, it's goddamn New York. I mean PoNYcon itself after all basically just existed because Bronycon left the New York area and some of the staff felt like continuing to have cons in New York basically, hopefully that con will be managed by someone more capable than Kar.
>>
>>26476162
Quite frankly those who are in NYC are better off taking the 4+ hour drive to Baltimore... that is unless the porch monkeys get restless again.
>>
>>26476112
>that was the period I stayed away cause I was disenchanted with the Fandom after the months of endless drama storms.
Are you me? Last thing I went to was PT's rooftop newyears thing way back in 2011. I didn't do the Bronycon in Jan cause of all the drama and very happy I avoided it.
>>
>>26476262

Hahaah well that's a bit earlier than when I stepped back, but yeah I don't regret not being too involved in the fandom in that period where there was a new shitstorm every goddamn other week.
>>
Only conventions worth attending now? Looks like it's just Bronycon and Babscon.
>>
>>26476332

>>26476412
The ride is ending f@m
>>
>>26476332
Midwest Brony Fest is alright if you're in the middle of the country mid-year, but this year has Nightmare Nights in Texas and Ciderfest in Wisconsin a week apart in October. The ride is shrinking for sure.
>>
>>26476412
More like the small conventions aren't sustainable. In the beginning when there wasn't megacons like Brony or Babs they could pull in people who were good at organizing and stuff. But with the megacons, nobody shows much interest in the smaller ones anymore so they shrivel and die.
It's for the better, having 30 small conventions fighting for talent and events for 1 show is a lot worse than having 3-5 big ones a year.

The ride/fandom isn't dying. Stop spouting that meme. I was asking what cons are actually worth attending, as in, which cons are actually fun to go to and are worth the money. There are plenty of cons out there that are popular and have super high attendance, but aren't worth attending thanks to anti-brony staff, former Everfree Network staff, or are overall not that great. Hence, my question.

You guys are talking about cons as if the fandom relies on cons to stay alive.
>>
>>26476412

No, Cons always drop off occasionally, the biggest drop off ever was actually around the peak of the fandom, after 2012 there were just TOO many cons and most of them could not substain themselves since people just had so many goddamn options.

Even then we STILL have too many, I think we have at least 10 in the U.S. or something.

Also the 2000 person attendance was fairly normal for a mid-level con like Ponycon, it's just that it's not great considering how much further they went this year to get guest, but they were never one of the MAIN cons. But it's not like attendence was unusually low or anything.
>>
Major cons are reporting higher and higher attendance every year, while less cons or cons that have a not-so-good track record are getting less attendees. The fandom isn't dying; we're just realizing which cons are awesome and which cons aren't and gravitating to the better ones instead.
>>
>>26476536
This. Pone isn't a general con, its very much a niche group with a select target audience.

Too many cons in a group like this is bad, its overexposure. The lesser ones are fading (though thankfully not failing in spectacular fashion like LPU to avoid bad press), and the major supported ones (west and east coast) survive.

Bronycon is the unofficial 'flagship' con of the fandom. When Bronycon falls to ~5000, then we can start worrying.
>>
>>26476611
>Falls to 5000

>>26476733

It was a bit more than 10k apparently.
>>
>>26476709
Bronycons gone up every year since creation.. Broke 10k last year.
>>
The con was apparantly supposed to be kill from the get go. That's why they invited so many guests. Go out with a bang and just break even, with no profit.
>>
>>26476755
This year it'll go over 12,000. Next year will be the first year it shows a decline.
>>
>>26476859
I'd believe the 12k. With the movie hype and all, I dont see a decline for 2017 either.

After that.. Who knows? I think it will stay above 10k as long as the shows on the air, but once the ride ends, so will the cons, and quickly.
>>

TrotCon is pretty good if you're in the area. Small con (1200 people in 2015), but it's still a good time. They're pretty lax about drinking, and they have the After Hours vendor hall.
>>
>>26477116
part of the reason I didn't go. I considered also doing the one day for 35 but I am too broke right now.
>>
>>26476854

Yeah I asked Keith about it after the closing ceremony, he basically just said that they were burnt out, running a Con is fucking hard, organizing it all, getting all the guest and all that, and they'd been doing it for years, on top of organizing and putting together all of the Regular NYC-Bronies events, nothing to do with attendance.
>>
>>26477146
That happens to a lot of people trying to run a con its a ton of work. I don't think people realize how much work it takes to make this happen. For people with jobs and lives, it's pretty much impossible to run a con and do your work at the same time. Still I wouldn't be surprised if others in the area would decide to run a con.

I worked at bronycon in 2014 when I still lived on the east coast.

It was a fun time with a lot of shit to do.
>A really large convention center
>panels and contests everywhere
>people are easy to talk to
>people are SUPER easy to talk to
>girl-to-guy ratio is surprisingly decent, and some were pretty damn attractive
>there's lots of children during the day
>there's lots of booze during the night
There was even a rave which was pretty good too. It reminded me a lot like a normal club, except A LOT more comfy for some reason. I still can't figure out why.

We even had our fair share of autism, ironically from (literal) children who apparently came from 4chan, that were tossing around boxes of uncooked spaghetti and mayonnaise. It was strange because I was expecting something better than what happened, but trolling is a lost art.

The only really weird part was that I felt like I made friends with the staff there - connected via facebook, steam, phone #, etc, but after the con was over it seemed like no one talked to each other. Maybe they wanted to keep real life separate. Can't blame them.

Just made me wish I still knew someone to pone with. It's not exactly a thrill being on the ride for so long all alone.

The plans this year are only known to the folk planning the party at this point. I am not one of them. You should ask them, but they probably want to keep it a secret, and that's probably the best call.

That was the "they" I was talking about. I was directly quoting the con mentioning what "they" were planning.

>>26477633
Dammit, and I might have the money and time to go this year. I hate surprises.
>>
>>26477627

See if you wanna make a Spahgetti Joke at a con, what you should do is literally set up a booth and SELL Spaghetti.

I don't know why someone hasn't actually taken the time to do that yet. I can see it now:

You got WeLoveFine shirts here, MLP trading card games here, the furry booth next to it, and then on the other side you have "Lotsa Spaghetti!"
>>
>>26477584
Usually clop artists are allowed to sell the 18+ stuff just not display it. You have to ask for it or know a code word or something.
>>
>>26477505
That feel. New York sucks.
I just came back from Ponycon.
>>
>>26477875
how did you like it?
>>
>>26477627
I know that feel. But I've been on this ride all alone for about 5 years and never had anyone to pony with. But it's still thrilling because of how awesome the ponies are. You don't need other people to have fun with the ponies.
>>
>>26477660
Oh ok. I thought you were referring to the convention, hence my reaction. oops.
>>
Just checked airfare.. Its cheap. Now all I have to do is decide between Bronycon or babscon..
>>
>>26477992
Con was okay. Not great. But "Okay".
Staff is extremely nice altough somewhat overwhelmed at times.

Definitely the disaster some people make it out to be.

I meant NOT the disaster some people make it out to be.

The other half is relieved the ride seems to be slowing down

I feel bad for Lena Hall. This is her first con and it has to be a bad one. I hope it hasn't soured her.

so you're gonna ignore the fact that those "dick pics" were taken in a bathroom and without HIS permission?
he has every right to be pissed off about it
all I ever see is him having fun with his character
>Princess Big Mac cosplay
>Big Mac Daki
yeah, it sucks that he has a minor character that he's known for and who wouldn't want to have a bigger part on a phenomenally popular show?
it get's your name out there for more work
he's been doing more and more male voices
>>
>>26478721
>>26478754
Yeah, but it's the last ponyconNYC due to this one being really shitty.
And BUCK had internal issues.
The ride isn't ending, the fad is just over, when people only cared about the fandom because it was a hype or to gain an audience (digibro).
The fandom has plateaued.
We also got a new con (pacific ponycon)
>>
>Lauren costs $30,000 to talk about a show she has had 0 input on in 4 years

How is this even justified?
>>
>>26478980
The fandom really REALLY likes sucking her off. /mlp/ is one of the worst examples of this, desu.
>>
>>26478980
Are you fucking serious?
I knew every con she's been to since Bronycon 2012 has just been free money, but that's ridiculous.

>>26478990
Why though? She's turned radically feminist these past few years. Something in her snapped and she went off the fucking deep end, at least last I've heard. Is it seriously because she visited /mlp/ ONE time for like an hour?
>>
>>26479095
I imagine the miscarriage plus being forever in Craig's shadow made her a little wonky.
>>
>>26479095
>Is it seriously because she visited /mlp/ ONE time for like an hour?
Yes. That and the fact that she created this current gen of pone. She's garnered an incredible amount of good will with most of the fandom, even if she HAS been pissing it away slowly all these years.

She's like God in the fandom's eyes, and Hasbro is Satan. So anything she does is automatically forgiven and excused away while Hasbro can literally do nothing right. When you create autism-fuel for an entire generation of horsefuckers you basically become fucking Ghandi.
>>
>>26479115
I'm thankful that she was given the opportunity to make G4 mlp the greatest thus far, but the fact that she was there to PITCH her Galaxy Girls or whatever it was to Hasbro, after rejecting that, they threw mlp at her almost as an afterthought
she started something great
there have been bumps in the road getting mlp to where it is today (S5 and soon S6)
the ones who took the reigns after she left (for whatever reasons) has done a good job of keeping the shows spirit in tact
Hasbro has made some strange and some stupid calls on what was to be put into the show
most people forget that at the heart of it all, mlp IS a toy commercial, which just happens to have great characters and stories this time around

and many forget that S3 was SUPPOSED to have been the SERIES finale
it was the unexpected fandom that sprang up that gave Hasbro the opportunity to continue the show

tl;dr
it's great that she "created" G4, but stop sucking her dick for it
she left and will undoubtedly never come back
she probably legally can't directly comment on any ep she hasn't been there for (anything past S2 I believe) other than, "that wasn't how I would/was going do it"

I also don't understand why so many call her "Mom"
is it supposed to be ironic?
or is it sympathy and wanting to be her "child" because of the miscarriage?
>>
>>26478980
Still haven't seen a source for that claim.
>>
>>26479367
Lauren doesn't even watch the show post season 2, she's admitted it more than once.

Oh dear that story again.

>>26477376
BABScon has the huge /mlp/arty, while Bronycon has a smaller party. Both were fun last year, but the former had a stripper.
>>
>>26478769

Lena is a legit fan of the show like before getting her role, Im sure you'll see her at more cons.
>>
>>26477626
Yeah Capper and company threw a bigass suite party and hired a stripper who poured hot wax on Sethisto while rubbing her snatch in his face. Then an Asian tried to swipe his credit card in her ass.

It was also the only party that DIDN'T get shut down

The only good thing was the autograph sessions. I got my funko figures signed by Ingrid and Andrew.
>>
>>26479367
Actually according to Big Jim, the show was only going to be one season - not three. Everyone working on it thought it was just going to be one season and then that was it.
>>
>>26479881
Actually wasn't it Capper that tried to swipe his credit card in her ass? Pretty sure that's what happened. And Sethisto did get a lap dance, but I think you're just making up the rest, about how she poured hot wax on him and rubbed her snatch in his face. That sounds like a big ass lie.
>>
>>26476947

Wait that's it? Kar was clearly in the right then, Tinker might of been a founder of the group but they weren't her freaking personal army to demand to protest with, if some individual members wanted to go with her fine but it would of been utter lunacy to make it a group scheduled event and probably just invited more drama.

I imagined it was something much bigger with how vitriolic Tinker's tweets were.

Just have to point out that a lot offices were closed on Monday for President's day.
>>

Yes that was the issue, trust me. I remember this happening. That's when she got banned permanently from Bronies NYC
>>
Kek, being paid 30k just to come to some shittt spaghetti con
>>
>>26480085
Have you ever met Tinker when she was still planning cons? She was a tyrant with no empathy.

So yeah I can see her throw a hissy fit over something like this.
>>
>>26479095
>at least last I've heard.
No you haven't.
>>
>>26478769
I'd doubt it she's said she was a big fan of the show long before she got a role. I seen to recall her saying she binge watched S1-3 at one point and let's not forget the friendship is magic acceptance speech.

Also on a related note is there any footage of her performance yet?

Another anon here. Nah Capper did a shot between the stripper's tits. Seth had a lapdance then had hot wax poured on his chest.

Most of the others though failed spectacularly.

It was some awkward asian kid tried to swipe the credit card in her ass.
Another awkward dude was supposed to lick whipped cream off around her crotch, but he freaked the fuck out.
And then some dumbass tried to steal the stripper's panties twice and got caught.

It was pretty easy to tell that for a lot of the people at the party, that was their first stripper. Which is completely unsurprising at all.

Despite those little things, the whole thing went off pretty well. I gotta wonder how it will be this year around since Capper won't be able to go. He seemed like the only real competent person to actually run things smoothly and not be a loud obnoxious drunken autist like I've seen at other /mlp/arties without him.
>>
>>26480218

That just seems so minor and petty though!!! I mean shit I was seeing Tinker ranting over Twitter that Kar destroyed her social life and other crazy stuff so I was thinking something more juicey
>>
>>26480877
I saw that too and PT took it too far. She is over sensitive and a flaw is she thrives off the drama. It is a mental addiction (an unhealthy one). It's not only this issue but the fact that she got cut off from the meetup group she founded effectively ended this. But really true friends stick around. DESU we are in control of our lives, if it destroyed her social life it's because she allowed it to. I can see it was her reaction to things. It's a victim mentality, so she let NY become a hostile environment then left.
