I can understand why people are attracted to them. They are extremely human-like, from their faces, to their body language, to their intelligence and emotions. If you think about it, they don't really look like animals at all, they look more like people than animals. Look at Twilight in this picture - Eyebrows lowered, brow furrowed, arms crossed, frowning. Humans are the only creatures that have this body language.
