Won't lie, I've been hearing this since feb 2012.
I'm starting to think it has to do with the fact that our 4chan personas aren't able to keep up with the fast changes that internet forces fandom into.

I understand why. Old 4chanbin general had some of the most memorable experiences, and those fortunate enough to be a part of that want to retain their cultural identity, such as it may be on an anonymous imageboard, in the hopes of creating new memories in the same vein (alternatively, they may just be yearning for better days, but the end result is still the same).

I am perfectly fine accepting that the old is dead, but the problem is that this board is based around mlp. Not immaterial aspects of human life, like /pol/ or /fit. We will get deleted one day, when no one gives a fuck anymore, and less and less people are giving less of a fuck each day. That is why the new is hated, because it reminds the old that they are dying, and in our case we have no leniage to keep us going. /mlp/ has no future.

I got to this board about 1 year ago. I see all these threads from past years of what seemed like a alive /mlp/. But I never see any content near as good when this board started. It feels like this board continually going downwards.
And when this board does close do we really just move on and just keep this place as a memory.
