Well, Luna at least is plausible. Depending on how much authority Celestia actually has, it's pretty easy to imagine Luna just being pardoned, straight up. The worst she did was slap around a few guards and extend the night an extra few hours, absent actions taken during her initial insurrection (does Equestria have a statute of limitations?). I mean, terrestrial monarchs execute usurpers because they can't afford to have their authority threatened, but Celestia has at least a thousand years of rule to work with, as well as literal control of the sun.
