It was a cute enough story at first. In a naive attempt to confirm her friendship with her previous abusive caretaker, she accidentally informs him of a huge pile of cash her mother had saved up for her in the event of an emergency. He fucks off to Canterlot with the cash, gets caught after Anon finds out and informs Twilight of the theft, and it turns out he pissed it all away gambling.
Later on, Twilight tells him literally every pony in town finds him completely unfuckable and tells him to go for Derpy since she is considered equally unfuckable due to her retardation.
Anon discusses the different kinds of love with Derpy, tells her he loves her like a parent, not like a lover. She doesn't get it. Simple mind thinks love is love, pitches a huge retard fit. Anon only manages to shut her up by saying he loves her, decides it's easier to just go along with it.
I'm probably omitting some details, but fuck everything about that green after that point.

In my mind Anon is emotionally repressed at first and then starts to listen to his feelings, but I probably didn't get that across properly.

I'm definitely projecting my own outlook on life into my writing, which is that to me relationships do not have this great significance that others perceive them to have.
I strongly reject the notion of the 'perfect match'; I think you can become happy with almost anyone.
To me relationships function pretty much like friendships: You're presented with a bunch of individuals and decide which ones you like best.
