Funny. All of the Japanese polls/comments I've seen fucking hate Rarity. Call her a dumb, vain, American bitch who is almost in her forties and how she's such a shitty pony.
Other highlights of my second hand reading of Jaapnese comments:
- Fluttershy is their favorite. Comments devolve into gushing over her whenever she is on screen.
- RD is kind of a fetishy waifu because not many like tomboys at least in the group I saw.
- AJ is second favorite because GLORIOUS NIPPONESE VALUES.
- Twilight is just sort of there, she's just a main character and no one really cares.

Well the former when RD was talking about how she was a failure no one had any sympathy for her. Again, turned into jokes about American schools.
And they spent the entire episode talking about the fate of the US Indians and how evil the US was. That is until someone mentioned the Ainu, an native group of Japan that were not recognized as a legitimate culture until 2008. Yeah they got upset.
Also apparently they don't get why Americans hate the comics. But the group I saw seemed to be waifu blinded and maybe a little /r9k/ so they probably can't see quality.

Starlight is arguably just as good as Twilight when it comes to magic. The only thing Twilight has on her is a wider variety of spells maybe, Starlight has better techniques.
She can fly without wings, but the pony who's best talent and life time role is built around magic can't do so.
