So lets see whats changed in the past 9 months and where the new season will fit into the rankings now that it's had roughly five weeks to settle.
Just to note. This survey assumes you've at least seen all the episodes, so feel free to make a list if you haven't seen them all and want to see how yours turns out. It just won't be included.

well, not main, but important character, like cadence and twilights brother, they should have been introduces earlier
and what was chrysalis plan? who made the "thread against canterlot"?
considering that there was an army of changelings ready, was chrysalis intent to just attack canterlot? dont the feed on love?
it's seems kinda odd that they introduced a creature with certain characteristics, and didnt even maintain consistency of those characteristics in the episode that they introduced them in

For what reason would they need to be introduced earlier? I cannot remember an instance that would have needed the mention of SA or Cadence.
The changelings were shown making Cocoons for those they captured. It seemed to me that it is more effective for them to directly drain a pony rather than feed off it passively as is often the case for creatures of similar design. I assume it wouldn't be easy to mass a large amount of flying loud bug ponies without someone in Canterlot catching wind. Attempting discretion is not necessary when their queen and several others had already successfully infiltrated the city.
Feel free to point out flaws in what I'm describing, I just honestly did not see much issue with the plot. As for the main characters, obviously they were not initially planned out, but I didn't see much of the earlier episodes changing with knowledge of their existence.

Took a while to rewatch all episodes. It was stunning how poorly some of my old favorites held up and how surprisingly good other episodes I didn't initially like were.
Pinkie Pride and Secret of My Excess are rather low.
Princess Spike is your favorite Spike episode? Inspiration Manifestation is more of a dual episode.
Okay, two questions: why did you put Brotherhooves Social so low and why did you put Friendship Games so high? Just curious, you have some opinions that could make good discussion. Sorry you're not too optimistic.

I know a lot of people love this one, but I personally just didn't like the songs, which pretty much ruins most of the episode seeing how it's a musical. Also, Pinkie is my least favorite character since s2, so her episodes were kind of a chore in general. AFiD would be lower as well if it weren't for the Smile Song. That one feels just as good today as it did back in the days.
>Secret of My Excess
To begin with I don't like Sparity shipping and I'm not exactly a fan of Spike if an episode is about him. For some reason he's a pretty cool, rational character in a lot of episodes where he's just a side character, but as soon as he's in the spotlight, he seems to lose his common sense. Also, I'm not a fan of monster movies, so most of the second and third act, which are mostly him rampaging through Ponyville, fell completely flat for me too.

The beginning and the speech at the end were okay, but other than that I just didn't find Big Mac pretending to be Apple Bloom's cousin funny. Not because of lgbt/SJW-moral-bullshit or anything - the jokes just didn't work for me, which resulted in an overall very boring episode with a lot of cringe moments (sorry, I know that's an overused buzzword, but it really is how I felt).

This one's a guilty pleasure for me. Imho the story and pacing were much better than in EquGirls and RR, but other than that I'll admit it's a bad movie that I enjoyed for reasons I can't even quite comprehend myself. I always found Sunset Shimmer to be extremely boring, the songs are bland and some of the plotholes are ridiculous. I should hate it, but I watched it twice and enjoyed it both times.
Everything just imho, naturally. Tastes differ and all.

Personally, s3 really surprised me in a positive way when I was rewatching the episodes. The first half was fantastic. It's just the second half where it got weaker - especially SAYS.

I think it's OK to put there for reference. Most people will know the season of the episodes (and some turbonerds even the number within the season), but it's the kind of information that would belong on a well-done chart in my opinion. However, the column should be smaller in my opinion, perhaps you could shorten the title to just Episode # or maybe SxEP, it should be fairly clear what it means even for external readers since the chart is about a TV show.

Alright. I mainly am just curious about Brotherhooves Social ending up so low. Personally I didn't like it that much because I have never, ever, ever wanted Big Mac to be anything more than a gag character. I really struggled to care at that big ending speech. All the SJW shit that his VA spewed not related to the episode didn't change my opinion either way but it wasn't anything but just "okay."
I think the concept and moral would have worked a lot better were it a Shining Armor/Spike episode that many people speculated it would be. Shining Armor desperately needs characterization and the moral that it went for would probably have worked better with him and seemed more genuine because he's not a gag character and it would probably mean more to Spike anyway.

Apple Bloom episodes are disliked, yeah. IMO pretty much all of them are mediocre. But I personally don't like Big Mac that much.
Brotherhooves Social would have been amazing were it an actual Brotherhooves Social and Shining Armor competed with Spike. At least there, him feeling inadequate compared to his sister would have made slightly more sense. Even the "pity party" at the end would have been stronger because you've got two characters that deal with those feelings rather than just one.
And of course we wouldn't have had to deal with some rather unfunny scenes during competition.

I greatly enjoyed the episode and I feel a large part of that is because I wasnt evaluating it based on humor. The episode dealt with Big Mac's desperation to be acknowledged and the cringe did a great job of conveying how little he cared about what he had to do to get that acknowledgment (as well as how much it meant to him)
I've seen a lot of people criticize the majority of the episode as a bad joke while celebrating the 'feels' ending, but the entire episode was a slightly more subtle delivery of that message. The ending is strengthened from the feelings developed throughout the episode and comedy seemed to not be the main focus of the episode.

Forgot to mention that while Spike's desperation to not fuck up and seem useful is rooted in his sense of identity and his personal internal struggle with his role in the world and what he does, Big Mac's really can be rooted to what amounts to an irrational amount of entitlement that he feels as AB's big brother to her looking up to him. That and sibling rivalry. It's not like he's not close to AB anyway.

I do not understand the preference for Shining Armor. The Apples are heavily tied to family and greatly stress the bond they have. It's not at all irrational or entitled and it makes perfect sense to come from a character like Big Mac who has mostly been shown in his support of the family.
Again, I don't see how the middle is intolerable unless you're looking at it purely from a comedic standpoint.
Comparing it to Equestria Games, Spike does not want to be in that situation, he gains no potential benefit from it, and it stems from a situation that is mostly out of his control.
Big Mac on the other hand, knows full well he looks stupid, does not give a shit, and is doing so because he wants to impress AB more than anything

He's with her all the time. If anything, he's around her MORE than Applejack is because she's going to save the world. It's his own damn fault if he doesn't feel close to her, which is already sketchy because of the whole oneness of the Apple family thing.
I mean if you're going to compare the two both are scenes that make the ending more meaningful. I will concede that. I just cannot shake the apathy and disbelief that I have for Big Mac's feelings in his episode while I can genuinely believe Spike's in Equestria Games. I will admit that I'm biased but still.

From the beginning it is made clear what the concern is. Big Mac feels he is losing his connection to AB and is desperate to preserve. The entire episode following that is used to depict Big Mac's character as well as hammering in the overall episode concept. The ending merely puts a bow on what the writer got across while allowing AB to respond to what BM was putting out the entire episode.
I simply don't see what the flaw is unless you just hate Big Mac. The episode is very coherent and well put together

Again, if anything he's around Apple Bloom more than AJ because he's always on the farm. It's his own fault. There's no connection to lose because the Apples are connected at the hip and probably will be forever. If anything it's AJ that should fear being distant from AB.
I was neutral to Big Mac before but this episode really made me dislike him, hopefully he's back to his two note self next season now that his fans got thrown a bone that few others asked for.

It is not an issue of spending time with each other, it is an issue of younger siblings growing up and relying on you less and less. What once impressed AB no longer does so and that is not at all an uncommon relationship depicted by writers. It is a byproduct of growing up and almost always the case with Brother Sister relationships

I'm a younger brother. I only have one older brother. I could see what you're talking about with sibling relationships but in my experience if two siblings are drifting apart even when they're together all the time it's the fault of both not putting enough effort in.
I also disagree with "it's not just as simple as spending time with your sister." My brother lives far away from me and when I feel distant and finally see him again, just being around him is enough for me.

Instead of trying to force things to be like they once were, you need to adapt to the new realities of the relationship. Sure AB needs Big Mac less, but she also needs AJ less now too. Because she's growing up and becoming a mare who has her own identity.
What she learned from her siblings is great and they did a great job being their siblings, but they should realize that she needs her own life and let her trot by. Things aren't going to be the same as when she was a filly but that's not sad. It's just how things are.

Again, it's a matter of growing up. Neither AB or BM disliked each other. AB was just less impressed with BM than she was when she was younger. They still loved each other, BM just felt that AB didn't see him as a "hero" anymore. Your older brother could likely do things you weren't capable of, as you got older, that wasn't as much the case.

I never idolized my brother. I basically had an equal relationship with him, and we were pretty close.
It was pretty shocking when I had to realize that my older brother was changing and I kind of wanted the old days back. But I'm happy with our relationship now.
Maybe it's just the younger sibling in me talking but it's always struck me as pretty arrogant and entitled to assume that your younger siblings should just inherently look up to you. Maybe I'm an odd case. My view of a sibling's relationship was colored by a lot of things, and I have no clue how this is different with a younger female/older male relationship.
All I've got to judge this is my own experience. Maybe I don't know what an older brother would feel. I know what I feel and where that came from though. This discussion has been pretty good. I don't think we'll ever agree about Big Mac but I enjoy hearing about other interpretations.
