The Equestria Games are only held every so often, but there are so many kinds of sporting activities to practice and perform that it can't be the only showcase, can it? Especially with winter games in the mix; there's usually only one season a year to enjoy them! Pegasus work and magic can account for that, though the cost might be prohibitive outside of the really big exhibitions. Perhaps there's an annual Snow Games?
