It's not even just that part. Have you ever noticed how in most of the comics where there is a conflict in the Mane 6, Rarity is usually one of the instigators? The town fight one comes to mind, she acted really oddly greedy in that.
The other thing I found odd is I spoke to Katie Cook at a con and apparently she claimed she loved Rarity. It doesn't really seem so with how she's written.

I want to get back to reading them because I liked the art, but if Rarity's written as poorly as you say then it might not be a great idea.
There seem to be far more variant covers now than there were at the beginning too.
I actually had a complete collection of all the variant covers up until around issue 5 but the cost was simply too high at that point and I had to stop.
And lucky you getting to speak to Katie Cook haha, I still haven't been able to go to a pony convention yet.
