I read this part of your sentence and immediately thought of Twilight hiring extremely muscular jocks as her Royal Guard. Considering how season 05 was written around the same time as Rainbow Rocks, one could have expected to see Flash Sentry being shoehorned into the show.
The backlash and shitstorn that followed Flash's cameos on s04 made them rethink a few things and that's why we didn't saw Flash Sentry ever again.
Hell, they even removed Flash Sentry's planned scene from Slice of Life.
