You see, the local people took up to call Christmas as Kratchun in the recent years.
Of course, having never heard the term before even from the elders, I had to do some research about this fancy word of theirs and voilá, I found the real meaning.

Well let me present a hypothetical scenario. Imagine every Pagan Pantheon of old existed for real, numbering at around 11 or 12 separate Pantheons (this is merging together stuff thats the same just with different names, Zeus/Jupiter style).
The Slavic Regions are like every other Pantheon bidded against one another, fought and manipulated one another.
If you look over their deities and beastiary, you see stuff from almost every other region, even some Egyptian stuff, surprisingly.
Slavlands are spooky.
But, responding to you more directly, the renaming of Christmas is just the tip of the iceberg. Many Slavic Pagan deities were morphed into Christian Saints, for instance.
In some parts of Russia, they are quite literally invoking Pagan deities even if they claim to despise the old ways.
