You know what really annoys me? During the Civil War arc, they killed off probably the greatest main character from the entire A.D generation, and did it in the cheapest way possible!
There wasn't even any real retribution for Booth, he just died like it was no big deal. Nopony even mentions him anymore except for in those stupid comparisons between the Lincoln and Kennedy killings.
Of course the writers are going to make callbacks like that, as long as we keep noticing them.

Look I liked the American Civil War arc as much as the next mare, but seriously there are just too many great characters over many amazing arcs to singlehoofedly claim that title. Things have really gotten dull as of late though, they really don't make men like they used to.

If you watch his strategies throughout the Civil War, he actually didn't free a single human with the Emancipation Proclamation, since the Confederacy wasn't his to control. Honestly, that's genius.
And who can challenge the guy's speeches? I know, they knocked it out of canon that he wrote them in 10 minutes flat, but the Gettysburg Address has to be the greatest cinematic monologue in history.

I don't know, that weird little love-hate bromance going on between Saladin and Richard the Lionheart in the Third Crusade arc was really something, and both were amazing characters in their own right as it was. One of those rare instances in the show where it was really hard to pick a side.

I know, they're the writers attempt to put a Mary Sue spin on those two moron sales-ponies that keep popping up everywhere, but they've got some achievements behind them.
They taught humans how to fly, then went back and made their invention good enough to be used in war. Most of the time doesn't come around until the next story arc, but they pulled it off in time for the First World War.
