Tell me, anons, why aren't you using the GOAT PonyOS?
>>
>>25869513
I was never aware of this
>>
Shitty reskin or does it come with tools to ease pony watching and OC?
>>
>>25869550
>>25869521
It's not a surprise you haven't heard of it; despite it being the best operating system, it doesn't get much press.
And it's not a reskin, it's its own OS from kernel to userspace. See: http://www.ponyos.org
>>
is twili linux still in development?
>>
>>25869585
Huh, might install it in my shitty c2d box once it gets networking shit just so I can brag about shitposting from it.
>>
>>25869606
Nope. Unfortunately, that got left by the wayside. PonyOS's parent, though, ToaruOS, is still under active development.

>>25869625
Sounds like a plan. It currently works great under QEMU, so if you want to run it from there, that's an option.
>>
>>25869513
Because I don't feel like dealing with the pain in the ass of changing when I am quite happy with 7.

So. How much software actually works with this OS that isn't a reskin and is its own thing that "doesn't get much press"?

Anon... MOS-3 is the best operating system known to ponykiind. Why would anypony even use a time-shared program manager?

>>25870591
Probably. Not absolutely certain, but it should run on VirtualBox; if it doesn't, you can run linux in VirtualBox and see if QEMU will run from there. Madness, maybe, but it'd be fun to see if it works.

If you're looking for PonyOS that's safe for the other boards, just look up its parent distro (it's on the github account); that's PonyOS's kernel and userspace without the pony rice.

I used dwm for almost 2 years and it's lovely, now I'm testing bspwm because its config files are written in bash, you don't have to recompile it to make small changes and it's more flexible when you resize your windows.

Pic is my WIP desktop. I still need to finish my conky config on the top and tweak some more stuff.

4chan won't let me upload big pictures for some reason
>>
>>25875214
When recompiling it takes less time than relaunching X, I care less. But hey, I do kind of miss i3. I can't seem to make DWM do what *I* want, it just does its own thing; it's nice to have that, but at the same time, I sometimes just want it to split vertically not horizontally god dammit

Also your pic is literally 2x2

I'll have to upload a screen of mine when I get back to my laptop
>>
>>25875214

>>25875407
Also, that is one slick-ass desktop, Anon. Very well done. I'm digging the wallpaper and your CSS; what browser are you using to get that? I still haven't figured out how to config surf's default fonts, which means 4chan just looks bog-standard on my machine.
>>
>>25875799
Arch is actually pretty good; no memes, I'm being dead serious. I definitely prefer LFS or Debian (except for apt, holy shit apt sucks), but it's a pretty great distro, to be honest family.
>Cinnamon
Eh, it's okay. It's made entirely for people who couldn't get over Gnome 3, but it's alright asides from that. Not the best, not the worst.
>>
>>25875799
Nobody does that though.
>>
>>25875749
Are you using Termsyn?

I tested st for a while but I switched back to urxvt because the scroll patch doesn't work well, no support for eastern characters and shitty rendered "ponysay blocks" are really annoying.

This pic is great for some pony subtleness on /g/.

>>25875815
Thanks. What you see there is just Firefox with Pentadactyl, every single FF bar hidden and, obviously, a custom CSS. surf supports custom CSSs, so maybe you can make a global CSS using your font of choice.
>>
>>25875891
Nope, no termsyn here. And st is pretty damn nice except for scrollback and ponysay; super fast and damn clean. Never used any eastern characters, so I can't speak on that, but eh. I can totally see why people generally use urxvt over it, though.

Actually, yeah. Now that you mention that, I vaguely remember that on the website. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll have to go look it up.

TIL so goddamn much. Apparently there's a pony OS and a programming language.

>>
>>25878156
There's a deep rabbit hole of obscure OSes, Anon. It goes on for what feels like forever, each one claiming to be more pure than the last; basically, the further back in obscurity and hardware support you go, the better it gets, as far as philosophical purity goes. PonyOS lies on the third tier of the outer edge of the hole; custom built, obscure, doesn't run on much hardware, but lacks a 'philosophy' for users to be snobbish about.

What's nice is that not everything is a circle, only programs and some shit like arrow buttons in Thunar.

Also, no idea why I like the dock given I launch everything with keyboard shortcuts now.
>>
>>25878255
It's comfy, and the icons are sexy anyway. How do you like XFCE? I tried it, but I'd already tried tiling WMs and couldn't go back.
>>
>>25878351
I like it a lot, before it, I'd used GNOME 2 (Ubuntu 9.whatever on an old laptop) and loved it. I tried MATE, but XFCE is nicer in my opinion. I've tried kde in the past too, not my thing either and fuck unity.

I think I have i3 or awesome installed on my c2d mintshitbox, but i probably need to find a cheatsheet for keyboard shortcuts before fucking with it again.

Something doesn't add up here, assuming this was created by a single person or a small team. If it is true that the OS contains no derivative parts, then whoever wrote it must be a superhuman genius with a lot of free time or, possibly, the ability to bend time.
