yeah, but they look much better now since I ran them through the wash (it got rid of the outright black spots), but the grey will never completely come out, that's just the nature of minky, especially with such an impressionable light pink color. But with purple, you can get away with a lot more, just look at some of the older twi butt (some pics were in the last thread I thnk) and you'll notice some greying as well, but you have to look for it
In fact qt's pinkie is a shade darker than every other pinkie and I'm ok with that

I wish, I've gone through 2 plushmakers now and still haven't been able to get some PJ's for my girls. The best that I can recommend is look up a diy tailor guide after picking a fabric you like and start pinning and sewing as you go

Alicorn OC anon here. So, update. I'm not making it. Not yet at least. I went to my local joanns today and they didn't have the correct colors. Instead, I'm going to be making a ponka with colors I'll be receiving in the mail. Probably gonna order samples of the fabric today to see how they look in person before I buy them in total. In the mean time I'm gonna work on my applique technique to try and get it to be somewhat decent.
On another note, Pic related from Grunt's stream is also pretty much guaranteed to be made into a plush at some point. God bless.

Read reviews about it. Take note that with a small hoop you'll be limited to doing small eyes/cutiemarks. Also bottom end embroidery machines tend to be like $400 bare minimum. So if you do buy it just expect to be disappointed.

I just got my AJ from 4DE today. I giggled a bit when I saw they put the coat-matching gift tissue paper in the box again. I had been a bit disappointed when they didn't do that with the RD/Rarity/FS mass shipment, but I figured they didn't have time to fuck with it given the delays and whatnot. Glad to see they're doing it again now, it's a nice touch.
Have I posted Maud's second outfit here yet? No? Okay. Might pick up some more nylon and elastic to make two for the front legs too.

I thought of a way to get the best of both worlds with my LS Rainbow. I'm thinking about doing the hidden zipper method and then making a separate anatomically correct minky insert as an individual piece. Idk if I should bother trying to add buttons to hold the insert in place or just use the insert for looks. Any thoughts anyone?

I wish there was a pattern laying program. Select orientation of pieces and width of material then it would auto align pieces to give the least amount of waste possible. That would be handy for fabric, wood, metal, anything really.
Updated sewing stand. I bought a bunch of bobbins and needed more thread space. I really need to get rid of some of this thread. My mother probably bought some of those spools like 15+ years ago.

Do you have any suggestion on how to actually cut a 1/4" all the way around? So far all I've done is just cut randomly around the edges and then when I'm pinning, line up the lines on each side and pin through that. Getting a perfect seam allowance all the way around seems impossible.

Cardboard box to place the minky and pattern on. You use the pins to hold the pattern down on the minky.
As for a seam allowance, you can make one by using a ruler and marking out 1/4 from the edge of the pattern, then cutting along that. Helps your sewing look a lot tidier because the pieces align much better that way.
I did it the way you mentioned in the past, but trust me it looks so much better if you take the time to put in the seam allowance.

I don't have difficulty tracing since I just use my hands to keep the paper flat where the weights don't quite get it all but I can see how that would work. This is the first time I've used weights. Before I was just pinning the pattern to the fabric which caused little folds everywhere.

That's a TON of marking. You'd need to mark every few inches to keep a good eyeball line on where to cut. I just had a freaking really good idea though based an my mother telling me to use a compass. I just taped a pencil to my Sharpie and it's roughly a 1/4" from the edge of the pencil tip to the marker tip. If I drag the pencil around the pattern while keeping the marking tangent to the line, it'll give me a perfect allowance all the way around.I don't think my Rainbow is going to be finished by Christmas.

I just drive the pins straight into the cardboard. Find it works better than weights.
As for the seam allowance, shit, I forgot about that method. I have 2 pencils in that same assembly in a cup 3 feet in front of me that I used ages ago.I do all my patterning with Adobe Illustrator and it does the seam allowance for me

Unfortunately I already have half my pieces drawn and my seam allowance doesn't fit in a few spots. It'll have to be used next time I make one. Another method would be to make a second pattern than is just slightly bigger and trace both but that's a lot of paper. I hope my pencil/marker thing helps others.

I'm retarded when it comes to keeping a straight sewing line. I know the machine has lines for seam allowances but I'm terrible and keeping everything straight as it passes under the foot. I like having that extra line to follow when sewing. Then I know for sure if I'm off because I'll be off the line.

It really just comes with practice, that's about all there is. It took a little while before I started getting things nice and straight, but your technique will make you sew straighter than just following a marked line.

Well thanks for the walkthrough. This pencil and marker is really helping. It's actually double helpful because if you put the pencil on the pattern while marking it holds down the paper and keeps my marker from slipping above the fabric. The last like 5 posts or what not have made a huge difference for me.
