So I've been tossing around ideas for a story, but also find the idea of a working it into a CYOA pretty attractive. In Don't Fuck Up, Jolly Joists was deadpan most the time, especially when she was making jokes. It was the juxtaposition between her matter-of-fact attitude and her insane antics that made her interesting and fun.
She was confident, direct and sincere in her seeming insanity.
In Butt Quest, Jolly is still eccentric, but it's in a wink-wink-nudge-nudge sort of way. She's a self-aware joker, who's intentionally teasing those around her.
When DFU Jolly made a joke, you couldn't tell if she was being serious or not.
When BQ Jolly makes a joke, she then smile, ruffles your hair and says "I'm just messin' with ya."
DFU Jolly wore a treasure chest as a suit of armor because she genuinely thought it was a good idea, and she didn't care if anybody thought otherwise.
If BQ Jolly ever wore chest armor, it would be to entertain others as part of a gag.
DFU Jolly wasn't playing a fool, she WAS a fool. A brilliant, insane and wonderful fool, but a fool nonetheless.
She's the kind of fool who wholehearted believes the insane ramblings a crazy hobo, whereas BQ Jolly seems like the kind of person who, when confronted by a crazy hobo, would whisper "get a load of this guy."
They're basically two completely different characters.
To me, BQ Jolly seems like a fun, good-natured pony with a cheeky smile.
DFU Jolly was an insensitive, single-minded weirdo, whose smiles were rare and mostly maniacal.
Jolly isn't a comedian — in fact, her jokes are terrible. They're so bad it took the entire quest for Jolly to make a single pony laugh.
Jolly isn't amusing because of her witty quips, but because of her personality. She doesn't give a fuck about personal safety, social rules or even the laws of physics.
Her insane logic baffles those around her, and the fact that her bizarre ideas usually work turns the joke back onto her skeptics. It makes you wonder; "Who's the fool now?"
Perhaps I'm over analyzing a meme-quest, but Jolly is my favourite CYOA MC; I'm invested in this shit.

I hate to break it to you, but I can't think of any text quests I follow that have a regular update speed of less than 30 minutes.
GS: About an hour
M&M: 45 minutes to an hour
Urban: 45 minutes
JAD: Half hour to upwards of 45 minutes
When I first started, I could do 15-20, but I felt like I exhausted myself really quickly. Also, the quality of the updates wasn't great.
I shoot for 30, but don't worry if I go a bit over. That gives me:
A: Time to really think about where I want the update to go
B: The ability to think about what the characters will do and how they will respond.
C: Edit my notes/inventory if need be
D: Time to look back over the update and fix errors in grammar, wordiness, and anything else.

When I was GMing, at absolute peak I could poop out a solid post every 40 minutes. Typically that turned out to be 20 minutes to build a consensus from responses, 5 minutes to brainstorm a response, 15 minutes to turbowrite a reply. That was only possible when I had posts where the outcome was relatively simple each time and there wasn't much that needed to be invented based on player reply.
More common was 60 minute responses being a fast pace: ~30 minute for replies, ~10 minutes to brainstorm the outline of a post, ~20 minutes to get it actually down. Towards the middle-end I noticeably burned out, so that posts often became dramatically slower (90 minutes-2 hours).
