That sounds like something an edgy teen would say when he wants all the edginess included in the "sociopath" label without actually being a bona fide sociopath.Just FYI, real sociopaths usually avoid the label because it's harder to manipulate people when you can't earn their trust. Also, real sociopaths don't spend good chunks of their mental energy wondering whether they're sociopathic, or trying to convince themselves that they are. Those are dead giveaways.

People can only empathize with things that have left an impression on them that they can empathise with. As children. Morality is internalised into people throughout the development process. Very young children function purely on a reward/punishment basis because they haven't internalised morality and they haven't developed empathy. Sociopaths are people who haven't developed empathy and haven't internalised any mode of morality that a normal person would recognize as such.

Both are honestly pretty bad, Sunset in particular barely has a personality in a way so baffling I consistently forget she even exists.
But I'll have to say Starlight is the less bad one because they atleast set up she had a beef with cutie marks before her bad redemption, while Sunset's "BUT I DONT KNOW HOW TO FRIENDS" gets dropped on your head fast and hard and you're just supposed to roll with it.

She could be high-functioning. She's clearly willing to overlook hypocrisy and the consequences of her actions on others in favor of holding to her ideals, but only to a point. Seeing the potential future she created really broke her resolve.
