I am a bartender. I get 9 an hour plus tips. I don't expect people to tip, but when they do, I know who they are and I remember them. I know to go that extra mile to provide great service for better tips.
There are regulars that come in and NEVER tip. They order food and drinks and their bill will be $15 and they leave nothing. Do I treat them differently? No. Are they going to get speedy service everytime their drink is emptyand its a full bar? Probably not.
You should tip depending on how good the service was. My philosophy is: Shit service 5% and a note for why I thought the service was shit. 15% for average service. 25 - 30% if the service was amazing. Zero complaints.
